According to Russo, Brent Flahr has stated that Johnson will play tonight if he gets to Columbus on time, which he said was about a 50/50 chance. Wonder where he lines up if he makes it tonight? Wild.com is showing a Bulmer-Powe-Clutterbuck third line and a Gillies-Nystrom-Wellman fourth.

My bet is that Wellman is soon to be packing his bags for Houston....maybe as early as this afternoon. He'll be the first call-up when a top 6 player gets injured.

Another interesting note by Russo is that if the Wild attempts to move Johnson to Houston, he will have to pass through waivers. Pittsburgh would have the opportunity to reclaim him and the Wild are on the hook for half his contract. Sure, his contract is small, but I don't think the Wild would've made this move if they didn't plan on him being on the NHL roster.

I'd like to see this guy get a chance to play with Clutterbuck on the 3rd line.

Not sold on Powe at all. Nystrom already proved he doesn't provide the offense, and Gillies is still green.

Hopefully he's slotted right into Wellman's spot tonight so we still get to see the Bulmer-Powe-Clutterbuck line. I hope Gopher and TP are ready for the onslaught.

I'm guessing Wellman goes to Houston as he's not done much, and Bulmer likely goes back to juniors once Staubitz gets healthy. Also think Almond will go back to Houston because he missed camp.

Heatley-Koivu-Seto
Lats-Cullen-Butch
Powe-Brodz-Clutter
Gillies-Nystrom-Johnson/Staubitz

I do think Johnson has a chance to jump up to the third line depending on how they play. It's nice to have some flexibility.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Powe belongs on the 4th line, not the 3rd. I'd much rather see Gilllies on that line.

I'm in the camp that thinks Clutter just isn't playing "his game" because it's preseason. As we saw in the Columbus game, he wasn't playing physical at all, but in the final minute gave a flash to show that he's still able to hit.

Zidlicky and Zanon and Cullen are just prime to be whipping boys.

Because in my mind, those three contracts will prevent us from signing Parise AND Suter next off-season.

I agree... one is terrible defensively, one is always out of position trying to block shots, and the other is baby powder soft.

Na, Fletch can sign em to 20 year contracts each

Like the move, mostly because the lack of depth/anyone stepping up for the last spot besides Bulmer was a little worrying.

Pretty much this, Fletcher's built around familiarity like so many others and Nick Johnson is a guy he's obviously familiar with from his time in Pittsburgh. If Almond were healthy he'd probably have earned a spot but he's not. Would have preferred a center but hopefully Johnson/Gillies can make an impression to push Powe to the #4C and Nystrom to the wing.

Yeo knows what he has in Carson McMillan, Warren Peters, and Jed Ortmeyer in Houston. He does not know what Nick Johnson can do, so it is worth the risk, and if he does not work out Pittsburgh will likely take him back on waivers.

He looked pretty decent on the Powe-Clutterbuck line last night, although that line was the one victimized for the goals. Perhaps most importantly, I thought Powe looked much better at center than he has on the wing. Johnson, Gillies, Bulmer, I don't care who does it, but someone take that 3LW spot away so we can move Powe.

Well it looks like Johnson is going the opposite route Devin Seteoguchi took with his number expectations.

Well I still think #25 is Belanger. I pretend the whole Barker thing didn't happen.

Yup. If he works out, great! If he doesn't, nothing lost. Who knows, he might turn into a Brodz-type of guy - get decent ice time and exceed expectations with the opportunity. Sounds like he was buried and ddin't get much of a regular season chance with Pit. In his short stint last year he scored more than Wellman did in his 15 and he's clearly better suited to a depth line role. Almond replacement since it sounds like Almond's back issue is significant?

That's good... Really good, right? I mean, if he turns out to be a good depth player, he could potentially stay with the organization for at least a couple years.
