Yeah see that's my thing. Everybody wants to act like it's not a big deal, except either it's a concussion (which is a huge deal, because no one has any idea how long that'll be or really how to treat it), or they don't actually know what's wrong.

Still not thrilled about any of this. Hope we don't end up losing him sometime after the season starts.

Well it can be hard to completely diagnose these things and even harder to know we're getting accurate info from the Rangers.

Sounds like maybe the specialists he's seen the past couple of days are working on figuring it out for sure

And acupuncture doesn't actually do **** but has about a placebo rate of relieving symptoms, so if it's helping him then whatever, kind of hard to **** someone up with that

so Sather saying Staal likely to join team Thurs or Friday..good good

if he is ready to go its great. next few games are big for Erixon ,Del Zott and Bell.

At this point I would think they go with DZ and Eminger as the 3rd pair, yikes! With Bell as the spare. Erixon down to get some seasoning

Erixon then called up , Bell down and Eminger to 7th D.

Here's hoping Erixon tears it up the next few games and wins a spot outright cause we all know Bell is just holding the spot till the kid is ready

Henrik Lundqvist had a severe issue with migraines. It took a while for the doctors to figure out what was wrong with Lundqvist. Maybe Staal has the same issue. Staal passed his baseline test. No other issues.

Quote:
The Rangers goalie revealed to local reporters Tuesday that he suffered from severe migraines upon his return from the hip ailment he suffered in mid-March.

"I'd wake up in the morning with [migraines]. They got better during the day but never completely went away. My whole face was tender," Lundqvist was quoted as saying to local reporters. "I had them the whole summer, too, until the last couple of weeks. But now, after taking tests, I'm on medication. The doctors found that they were caused by me grinding my teeth overnight when I slept."

Lundqvist and doctors speculated that he might have been grinding his teeth because of tension.

When the headaches continued in June, he contacted the team from Sweden. Lundqvist is now taking muscle relaxers and wears a retainer at night.

Said Lundqvist: "The situation is getting better each day."

Interesting. Lundy needs a bite guard.

Send Staal to his dentist to check his teeth, maybe he's a grinder too.

Accupuncture did work for me, but whether it was a Dr. Sarno mind/body relationship effect or an actual treatment for the injury, I can't say.

That's because its a meaningless term. I want to hear he's feeling well. If I got a 30 on a physics exam, retook it and got a 50, I did better, but that doesn't really mean much.

Actually, checking out Staal's jaw/teeth could be a very astute thing to do. I had problems with TMJ when I was in high school and it was largely because with the change to a faster, harder hitting game I started clenching my jaw before every impact, and got rocked with my head down a few times, and developed a habit of clenching my jaw when I was sleeping. It led to headaches and toothaches. Staal takes a lot of physical jarring normally, so could already have a mild tendency toward clenching his jaw and a hard hit like the one they believe caused all this could have aggravated the problem. Apparently it's pretty common in athletes that play contact sports. Because of the constant contact to the head, the natural response of gritting your teeth/biting down on your guard becomes a habit. You do it unconsciously when you're going to sleep, and you do it unconsciously when you start working out hard. Basically, whenever you're focused on something and don't realize you're doing it, you're likely doing it.

This makes a lot of sense, and a real logical explanation for the headaches.

I hope they looked into this or will look into it.

Teeth issues can cause all sorts of other issues. Headaches, dizziness, getting sick...

Every time there's a piece of good news with Staal, it's followed almost immediately by a piece of bad news. He's not starting this season. And if he is going to miss any significant amount of time, then the Rangers are going to have to pull off a move. Time to dig into our assets and pay put to get that other piece we need and have been looking for.

Yea it's not good. Outside of Hank he is the guy we can least afford to lose for an extended period of time.

Yep. They are going to need help because with an injury like this, he could be out 5 days or 50 days and when he comes back he won't be in game-shape....
