Indeed, yet they talk about the need to change the playoff format to create more excitement. Last night was probably one of the most exciting nights in baseball history.

All in all, it's brilliant. That "Dream Team" had no heart outside of like 2-3 players (primarily Pedroia, who I do like a lot).

And on to the playoffs. Honestly, I don't care who they play. I just want to see the Phils play well, and I will continue to appreciate a team that I could never have dreamed of following 10 years ago.

Cardinals: Do not want.

Playoffs are a new season, but our season series makes me uncomfortable.

Clearly the Phillies don't share that opinion. They could have easily avoided the Cardinals, or at minimum, forced a playoff game.

Charlie Manuel would never allow that to happen. That is a coward's way out. I would have much rather have played the D'Backs, but I would never want them to throw a game to get them. Fight 'til you die.

I didn't want to play the Cardinals, and I didn't want the Rays and their pitching getting in the playoffs.

I really hope Doc, Lee, and Hamels are sharp, and don't have one of those rare games where they get hit around. I hate 5 game series...

Here's how I see the Cardinals series, the first two games they played in May in which the Phillies were struggling offensively. Utley was injured and Pence wasnt here yet. They couldnt score.

Then they played in June in which Pujols wasnt playing and the Phillies took two out three. The one game they lost was when Oswalt went on the DL.

This last series two weeks ago was weird, the Phillies were in a funk offensively. They just got shutdown by a not so great Houston staff. Two weeks later it seems that the Phillies are hitting again. Rollins looks to have found a groove and Utley is seeing the ball better. HP3 is awesome. Bastardo still worries me but he pitched well his last time out and Stutes these last few outings has been great.

The Cardinals rotation isnt great, they are probably throwing Lohse/Jackson game 1 and 2 (maybe Garcia). Obviously Carpenter is a a great pitcher but he is probably only pitching game 3. Their bullpen isnt very good. Pujols is a concern as is Berkman but Holliday is hurt. Its going to be a tough series but I think the Phillies will win due to their advantage in pitching.

Let's be honest here.

Given their season performance with the Cards, it's gonna be a "one and done" situation this year. Hope everyone enjoyed the ride. At least we have the Eagles. Oh, wait. My bad. Well the Flyers...no, wait. Well, there's always next year.

Your optimism is greatly appreciated.

I just bought tickets for Game 1 on stubhub, never been to a playoff game before so I'm pretty stoked.

Yea dude I can't wait. How's the atmosphere? It looks crazy on tv. Is it basically like a hockey playoff game with 25,000 more people?

One of them was Doc's no-hitter. There was a kind of knowing silence in the middle innings, but then it got insanely loud. I hope it cools down, for some reason that is a crucial part of the atmosphere to me. It's tension every single AB.

Get back in your hole. You must be a closet new york fan. Or were you just trying to be a comedian.

round 1 opponents can't be teams from the same division. if you can't beat good teams, you don't deserve to win the world series. the phillies are more than capable of handling the cards.

I think it was more about the cost of that trade than not wanting Pence. He's been everything we could have hoped for though, putting up a .954 OPS in his time with the Phillies. Hopefully he can put us over the top in October, as well.

This should be funny; gonna be on TV

I just scored an above-the-dugout (Phillies') seat for Game Two on StubHub. I bought a red AngryBird costume online yesterday. I'm going to wear it to the game. I hope the Phanatic interacts with me. Can somebody say "Youtube"!?!?!?

It wil lbe freakin' awesome!

I thought the cost was low for a guy with his credentials. Plus we have him for two more seasons after this at a relatively cheep hit. I am not worried about him. I am more concerned with Howard and his foot.

... why?

a. Why are you wearing a costume to a playoff game?
b. Why are you wearing a costume to a baseball game?
c. Why are you wearing a costume?
d. Why are you wearing a RED BIRD costume to a playoff game against the ST. LOUIS CARDINALS?

I think there was a lot of comparison for how little the Braves gave up for Bourn. Then again, although Bourn was having a better year by some advanced metrics up to that point, Pence was much better after the trade and given his skills might be for the duration he's here.

The actually cost was fair what Pence has provided. However, what people were throwing around was 4 of our top prospects for Pence, which is what I, and a lot of others, did not think was a good idea.

Why are you fighting this?

Philly ain't going to maintain its rep if they don't beat up someone in a costume soon... it's been like 50 years since Santa got what was coming to him. Skinny *******.

Cards decision not to pitch Garcia until game 4 is really really strange IMO
