Me thinks that baring a trade, Staios signing means game, set, match for the D for now.

Not sure the last time I heard an incentive for one of our players to include a bonus for winning the cup.
And this, folks, is how you reach the cap floor without spending a dime.

Staios. Good grief.

Nice to see Staios signed. He really eraned it. I think he's a big upgrade over Mottau and Eaton.

Yeah, why would you let Martinek go just to sign Staois? That is definitely a downgrade. They should have given Martinek some cash based on loyalty alone lol.

Very good signing, Staios has had an awesome camp, and definitely earned the 1 year deal.

I don't have an issue with Staois, he's a capable depth defenseman. I'm still waiting for an upgrade though. Staois is replacing Martinek - that's a downgrade any way you care to measure.

I'm going to enjoy the team regardless, because there are a lot of players I like, that will improve this year.

But it's looking like another tough year for this team.
Staios vs Martinek- Martinek is the better skater and puck mover but Staios is the better shot blocker and body checker. Islanders lack players like Staios(Physical D-man who can fight/play mean). Hence Martinek was not re-signed and Staios was. At this point in time Staios is a little better fit for the Islanders than Martinek is.

Who has Staios been paired with so far this pre-season?

A big upgrade? I'm enthusiastic and am happy to have him on the team but I don't know. He's a veteran and a good guy to have around but he'll be injured throughout the year and isn't going to be beating many young forwards to the puck anymore. Depth it is, improvement it is not.

Steve Staios is a 5-7 NHL d-man at this point in time however he will bring a "Sean Hill" type game to our blue-line which was needed.

Kudos to him for winning the spot, but oh brother, that blue line is still in need of a major addition.
