Avery was also skating around and looking away while they were honoring Henrik.

K so show me where in the top 6 he'd ever fit?

Not with Richards gaborik
Duby AA/Stepan callahan

Kreider coming

So where? He's not better than even Ryan bourque imo

he's waaaaay better than borque.

but you're right. This LW fit issue should hopefully only be an issue for this year with Kreider coming ....

If Wolski fails on the 1st line and is replaced by Dubinsky I can see this scenario:

Dubinsky-Richards-Gaborik
Zuccarello-AA/Stepan-Callahan

Erixon worries me. That whole "he's ready for a top 4 nhl job now" line is absolutely untrue based on what I've seen. He looked great today, he played just like he did in TC but he hasn't been composed with the puck in any of the NHL games so far. He's good among other prospects and he's good among SEL players but he hasn't shown that he's good enough among NHL competition yet. He needs time in the AHL to put it all together. He plays really well when he's comfortable but he just hasn't had that comfort at the NHL level yet.

Not taking the future into account, based solely on performance thus far, McIlrath should be on the roster. I don't know why they seem resigned to sending him back. He would get better back in juniors but I'm not sure he wouldn't just get better with some NHL time. We're talking about a third pairing spot, likely with MDZ, being open - a tough defensive defenseman would work nicely there. He looked pretty good against the Devils' best scorers and a third pair guy would rarely be out with those types of shooters anyway.

Given Staal's mysterious status, I'd prefer that the strongest defensive defenseman of the prospects make the team. McIlrath has been that so far, I think. It'd be nice to send him back too I guess but I think the D would benefit from him more than Erixon, Bell, Bickel, etc.

I'm not even sure if you can say that Stepan is top-6 for the Rangers

Wolski - Richards - Gaborik
Dubinsky - Anisimov - Callahan

The only way he becomes a top-6 player is if Tortorella tires of Wolski (which I predict he will) if he doesn't score immediately.

Third line is up in the air. You will have Boyle/Stepan/Christensen all vying for that position. Or, you have Boyle center the third line and shift Stepan to wing. Then you still haven't factored in Avery, or Rupp (who you know is going to be getting time because they signed him on the FA market).

There is too much depth of legitimate 3rd line players on the team (which is good to have if injuries arise).

But in my opinion, MZA is at best a 3rd/4th liner on the team, and if he doesn't play top-6, having him on the team is POINTLESS. He is not the kind of player you put on your 3rd/4th line. But NO, Bourque is not better than him. I've never been so unimpressed with a NYR prospect (exaggerating of course). If his father wasn't a HOF we wouldn't be giving him a second look. This was the first good game he has played and it was against Frolunda.

Gotta agree on all accounts. I am a huge Zuccarello fan but I worry that he doesn't fit in on this team if there's no top6 spot for him and I don't think there is the way the team is currently constructed. I hope I'm wrong.

I don't think Mcilrath's ready for the NHL at all, no reason not to send him back and see if he can do something in Moose Jaw this year.

Zucc looked great today but I am still tempering my expectations due to the big sheet and SEL competition. Yet another reason why the Europe trip, while a great experience, is really not a great scenario for us.

Are you trying to say Avery is a cancer in the Rangers locker room? Or a bad teammate?

Zuccarello has also looked MUCH better in his other exhibition games in NA. He will never be a 30 goal scorer, but he definitely has the ability to put up 40-50 assists.

That would seem to consensus thinking in the Org. from what I've read. The Rangers will take a smart slow course with MacIlrath.

Mza will never be a top 6er on this team he could be like PA Parenteau an put up 40 50 Pts on a bad team but never on a contending team and as someone pointed out having him on in a bottom 6 role is pointless

Unlike Ryan bourque who while maybe not completely ready, fits in the bottom 6 much better than mza who can't even kill a penalty.

Now im an Avery guy I want him in this team. And um yah Hank and Avery are super close.

So what? Is hank going to play better because Avery's on the team?
