Zooks averaged .55ppg as a rookie last season. That despite adjusting to the North American game and smaller rinks. He also was almost a point per game player in the AHL as rookie despite a slow start there. He made a great pass against NJ as well and by all accounts has had a very strong camp. He will be a legit NHL player in my opinion.

I haven't been all too impressed with Rupp, even with his goal today...I still don't understand that signing, especially since we brought Fedotenko back too but what do I know. I think Avery as outplayed him, Christensen, Weise, etc...

From what I've seen, the way the opening night roster should look like...

Wolski - Richards - Gaborik
Dubinksy - Anisimov - Callahan
Avery - Stepan - Zuccarello
Fedotenko - Boyle - Prust
Rupp

Flame away.

I'd probably Rupp has outplayed Avery by a small margin. He's been better along the boards in puck possession, and he has the added bonus of being a heavyweight. Unless/until Avery steps up, I think he's the extra and Rupp is the regular.

Rupp was signed because he is a heavyweight that can also play the game. The team didnt want Prust having to fight all the leagues heavyweights. Prust was always willing but the team wants Prust to stay healthy

There's nothing to flame you for.

At least, for me personally, I agree.

But, Id move Avery down to the Boyle-Prust unit and have Fedotenko with Stepan-Zuccarello.

But I guess its all on weather or not Torts wants Avery around.

I personally love the atmosphere of the game in Sweden.

If I were a Pro hockey player, and couldn't hack it in the NHL, id like to play in Sweden. Love the fan base and crowds.

After sundays game. Sunday is the last day for rookies who don't have a contract, they either let them go back to the jrs or sign them.

How does that work for someone like McIlrath, who already signed an ELC?

He can do his 9 game trial if he impresses enough, then.

ahhh well its a lock that McIlrath will be going back. Good for him to get to these games though.

So have they said how many cuts will be made? Is the team going to be set or wait till last game of yr then make final calls?

regardless some guys are going on waivers but as we have seen not many players get claimed

I like it but then again I want Avery on this team even as 13th. I think he's looked better then a lot of the guys on the team. Certainly a lot better than the guys fighting for the job.

Note: I consider Zuccarello a lock now.

I don't think that's what he meant. A poster on the previous page made a comment that seemed to imply there were problems between Avery and Lundqvist, when in actuality it seems they're good friends.

I doubt Hank would bother to invest in a restaurant with the guy if they weren't close...

Some short notes:

Del Zotto and MZA argubly, by far, the best players on the ice for us. Like, Newbury had a strong game too, especially in the first half, but those two realy stood out. MDZ mixed good with bad, but I think he grew as the game went on and was a diffrencemaker in the end. Some big hits etc. Zucc made two awesome plays that got him the assists, and was strong all around. AVERY played like he had something to prove, but got hurt (highstick) and didn't return.

CHRISTENSEN besides a awsome shot was worthless.

WOLSKI besides waking up in the morning was WORTHLESS. Man, he is supposed to be a lock to make this team??? Lol. What a bum.

PARLETT is miles behind were Gilroy were last season.

Bickel and Bell played decent. BUT definitely not all that impressive.

ERIXON is definitely pushing it a bit. Trying to force the plays instead of waiting for them to come to him. The DECISION to keep Christensen and Wolski but dump Prospal seems EXTREMELY QUESTIONABLE in hindsight.

McIlrath played fairly well on the big ice. The best part was him severly bruising up JOEL Lundqvist after he gave Hank a friendly tap on the glove. McI was all over him in a matter of seconds with some real vicious cross checks. It was hilarous. It looked like McI was going to rearrenge Joel's face. Anyway, the positive suprise was that -- while not always pretty, while not always effective -- he got by perfectly well. Moved the puck and played defense well. For NA D its a big transition to go to the big ice in Europe. Like in NA it takes two strides to go from the net and into the action in the corner. You can play very simple. In Europe you gotta move around alot more in the corners. Almost have speed under your skates. In these aspects, McI just played fairly well. Just a plesant suprise that he could be so composed.

As regards the actual game, we were without like our top 10 players and Frölunda, who has a important game today, rested 5 of their top guys. Not the best game I've seen.

I still dont understand what everyone sees in Wolski. The guy has been on Christensens level during preseason and a lot during last season and people are ready to give him a first line spot? lol. If he starts with the first line, I give it 1-2 weeks before Torts realizes what a waste he is and puts him on the 3rd line.

yeah, Wolski has been very underwhelming when not paired with Richards and Gabby..and frankly im not convinced thats the best setup for that line (though probably is the best setup for the team as a whole)....Stepan would probably be the best player to go there, except then our 3rd line doesnt have a center.

I suppose you could go with something like this...

Stepan - Richards - Gaborik
Pack
Wolski - Boyle - MZA
Fedotenko - Rupp - Prust (whoever can play center here, plays center)

except that Sean Avery has outplayed everyone listed here, even Richards and Gaborik...so im not sure how he becomes th ehealthy scratch if we're serious about accountability and earning your ice time....

tough decisions coming up.

For those hardcore hockey fans interested, the game is in the SVT archive, without commentators. For all computer chair coaches, just watching the flow of the game, with just game sounds, is awesome. The celebration and ovation of Lundqvist is also there.

Swedish proxy is probably a must.
