Trent Hunter signs with Kings

http://kings.nhl.com/club/news.htm?i...fb-hunter-0930

Quote:
The Los Angeles Kings have signed forward Trent Hunter to a one-year contract, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

Hunter, 31, has spent his entire NHL career (2002-03 through 2010-11) with the New York Islanders. Last season he recorded four points (1-3=4) and 23 penalty minutes in 17 games, missing most of the season with a lower body injury.

The 6-3, 210-pound native of Red Deer, Alberta has accumulated 229 career points (99-130=229) and 201 penalty minutes during his eight-year NHL career. He has reached the 20-goal mark twice, including a career high 25 goals for the Islanders in 2003-04. That same season Hunter also had a career high 51 points and plus-23 rating, playing in 77 games.

Hunter has also appeared in 14 career NHL playoff games, recording five points (4-1=5) and six penalty minutes.

He was originally selected by Anaheim in the sixth round (150th overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. The Ducks dealt Hunter to the Islanders on May 23, 2000 for a fourth-round selection in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
Good for him to find a bottom-6 role on a playoff team out west. Kings fans seem to love him already, and it's always nice to find a job.

If the Kings wanted him so bad e could of just included him in a deal with Doughty

Good for Hunter.....is rookie season made us think he was more of a gamer....but when healthy and using the body hes a solid bottom guy

nice of Doughty to leave money on the table to lock up a key player in leading them to the cup. I'm happy for Hunter, frankly, I'm shocked he's healthy enough to play. I'm happy for him, I think he'll be far more effective on a good team, in a role that suits his play. The fans will love him.

I agree.....

you gotta go to the KINGS board and read the comments on the Hunter signing....you would think they got Heatley or Hossa Thier so pumed over Hunter....

Happy for Hunter. Always knew he was a solid player, just a little slow. Good to see he's got a job though. Best of luck.

seemingly good guy...good teamate type with a good shot and can play well in own end. Skating is pretty bad - hopefully his knee(s) are not totally shot and can be a part of what looks like a very good team.

Best of luck to Trent. I always liked him as a player. At one point I had him as the next Islanders Captain. But he's lost so much foot speed, which he never had much of anyway. It was right for both parties to part ways.

He can still skate? all jokes aside i always liked Trent Hunter and i hope he plays all 82 games for the Kings. I had such high hopes for him after his rookie year. The lock out "new NHL" really screwed him over. He just doesnt have the footspeed to be competetive anymore IMO.

Real glad he stuck in LA. Hope he has a nice comeback this year. Nice guy, good bottom 6 guy for sure. If he had a little more speed, d, hed still be here. Built for the pre-lockout NHL. Always loved Hunts...except for that goatee

He's been skating as well as Michal Handzus had been in his last season with us. As a 3rd/4th line guy, he's perfect.

I am very happy for my favorite NHL player Trent. I hope he does very well with the Kings. I think the Kings are a much better fit for him at this time as they are much closer to the Stanley Cup than the Isles.

We've all always said that Hunter is the kind of player that you want during a playoff grind. Looks like this year he'll get a chance to prove it.

I'll definitely be cheering him. I think his time on Long Island was clearly up, but it's nice to see him find a role where he's well suited, and has a chance at winning the Cup.
