lol.

He had his best season last year and was second on our D in points and finished at +6. Second also in the playoffs in points for defensemen.

Personally I like defensemen who are barely ever injured, play 22+ minutes a game and provide over 30 points a season. I guess that makes me a fanboy.

Give me Hamrlik back any day over this wannabe top 4 we have now.

Hamrlik found a team willing to pay him more money than Montreal and suprise he took it. Seems like a shocking concept in pro sports today. I wish him well and hope we can succeed without him. Bye bye Roman.

With hamrlik out, its imperative that markov and gorges stay healthy, or you will feel a pinch... unless a newcomer like yemelin makes a quick transition and becomes that guy. I like yemelin but I dont count on that happening at least not in the near future.

You must really enjoy pain...?
Anyways your opinion, no matter how absurd. I would of loved him back on a 1 year 2.5 mil a year. But 3.5 for 2 is too much.

His lack of mobility, physicality, shot and physical ability were painful to watch. He's good for a youthful, powerful team as a minute cruncher with a talented partner (Mike Green, PK Subban) but he sucked for his salary here because he didn't deliver anything other than stable defensive play. Didn't skate with the puck, surely couldn't shoot it and didn't know what the words "body check" or "CLEAR THE ****ING CREASE ON THE PK YOU SLOW STUPID ****" meant.

Campoli, Subban, Markov, Emelin, Gorges and Diaz will make this team SHINE with their mobility. Hamrlik was like an anchor... a slow, pansy anchor.

Because more points means better defenceman, right? I guess we should hail Mike Green as this era's Eddie Shore.

Glad he's gone, he can play like Yertle the Turtle at Capitol Hill.

Without Roman, this team is destined to miss the playoffs and fail.

I wouldn't go that far but Hammer is a rock in times like these. 1 year of hammer would have been better than 1 year of Campoli.

We must have traded for Hamrlik, since we won tonight.

Right ? Right ?

If Spacek keeps on playing like he did tonight, we won'T miss Hmarlik that much.

I think his time is nearly up, just like Kovalev's time was nearly up after 2008.

Hammer is getting to old and he wanted way to much money. I don't blame him on the money issue, after all if he landed a few million more just before he retires then WHY NOT.

The Habs have to bring in more youth on the blue line, and yes the first 2-4 months the young defense need to get their NHL legs.

This is the last year of Gill and Spacek, thats two full time spots for next year. Habs have to start bringing in the youth.

Funny you mention Mike Green. Expect him to become a much better defensively responsible dman with Hamr's presence. He does this everywhere he goes. We have plenty of dman depth, but only pk and markov are as quality a dman as hamrlik. We may be able to make up the difference with a defense by committee type d, but Hamrlik will be missed, no doubt about it.

I appreciate Hamrlik, and he'll certainly be missed. I don't disagree with management's discomfort at a 2-year deal, however. I like that the club is adamant on getting significant salary off the books for the next offseason.

Weren't you one of the ones that absolutley hated Hamrlik?

Are we missing Hamrlik?

Right now...but we probably will. It's not so much that we're missing Hamrlik per-se, but we haven't replaced what he brought to the team, this can be a problem down the line. Shot-blocking, minute-eating, defensively responsible top 4 d-man. This is the biggest hole this team is missing right now, I hope it gets filled at some point.

I think we're all hoping that Emelin fills that void. Obviously 0 NHL reg season games under his belt makes him look a little bit like the odd man out, but I believe when he gets paired with someone on a nightly basis, learns how to click with someone and the system he will be what Hammer was. I guess you can call this wishful thinking, but the season hasn't started and I feel like being optimistic this year.

I remember when Hamrlik first joined the habs. One of the best #3s in the league. Solid player. Time has taken it's toll but he's still a good player and has a few years left, but at what level? 1 year deal, i'd take him over gill, but two years? Nah. Pass. Good luck to hamrlik but time to develop our younger players. We got guys like streit in the past who ended up top pairing d-men(I miss him over hamrlik) and we've got the subbans, webers, yemelins, diaz and so on. Give them a chance.

Just imagine Yemelin playing alongside Hamrlik....

Would you not feel better ?

Great point. That would be sweet, actually.

I have to agree with the general consensus however. Two years would have been one too many. Can't really blame PG for trying to keep him but deciding to pass.

Let's pretend the Habs still have Hamrlik but that he's on LTIR for the next 82 games. Somehow the team will survive and who knows, his replacement may have a sparkling season. Without this newly created openimg we wouldn't get to see it.

I indicated earlier that I would love Hammer back at a 1 year 2.5. But he wanted more, and who can blame him. His career is almost over, I would of done the same thing, and not like he went somewhere where he doesn't have a chance to compete for the cup.

If Emelin can learn to be the player he was in the KHL in the NHL, we will be fine. Until then, the nail biters will be biting their nails
