Today's list. Someone has to take Tikhonov, don't they?
Tikhonov's not even a good AHL player at 23. He's in the same spot that O'Marra was a year ago as an unproductive former 1st rounder. Anybody claiming him would have to be squinting pretty hard to see much more than bottom of the roster potential.

Tikhnov reminds me of Fritsche. For some reason he made an nhl team at a very young age when he really didn't deserve it. Now he's a fringe player at best.

I listened to Gregor's interview with Tyson Nash (PHX's colour guy) last Tuesday and he pretty much said Tikhonov had been garbage in camp so far, for what its worth.

Ya upon further review it sounds like he isn't much of a player. I actually question if he doesn't just go back home.

Tikhonov, waived by the Coyotes, is reportedly negotiating with KHL's SKA; reluctant to go to the AHL.

Anyone hear anything new? Specifically defensemen that have/will be getting waived?

Played good the end of last year. And has been decent in the preseason. Also pretty cheap contract if needed to bury him in the minors when guys get healthy.

Not to mention the guy plays a mean guitar! (he has an album on itunes)

i wouldn't mind Lashoff. he may not have a lot of offense, but he's held his own defensively on some pretty poor teams over the past few years.
EDIT: after checking the numbers i guess it doesn't look so great afterall. he's looked alright at least.
08-09 -7 in 12 GP for TB
09-10 -2 in 5 GP for TB
10-11 +1 in 11 GP for TOR

Lashoff on waivers seems like one to take a chance on. At least that's what Bob MacKenzie just tweeted.

Hate to see Daryl Boyce get cut as he came from my hometown UNB Varsity Reds hockey program. He'd be a decent 4th liner on most teams, although I suspect most are full at this point.

the Oilers should take a chance at Lashoff, he could be capable of being your#6 NHL defender but just don't put him on the ice for PK and PP.

So is Lashoff any better than Holden/Parent?

The Oilers aren't going to take a chance on a marginal d-man that they have a stockpile of. Especially when they are at 49 contracts.

Don't the Oilers only have 1 available contract after the Martindale signing?

If they pick a guy up on waivers they are basically committing to him so they need to know he can do the job.

There is no gaurantee that he would be picked up by someone else if they try to send him down for a chance at a do-over.

That aside, this morning Bob Mac said Lashoff looked like someone that could help from what he saw in pre-season.

Well given our d, it doesn't take much to help.

Lashoff is like Potter. He would be an ok stop gap guy.

Ultimately it's going to be on Tom Gilbert to step up his game this season. I don't expect to see Whitney for more than 65 games, I could even see something more like 40. Cam Barker needs to play his a$$ off too.

The Oilers need to get some more depth and Lashoff would fit.

Here's hoping somebody claims Brule.

That's the problem. I guess it really depends on how the coaching staff feel about Petry/Potter and whoever is next in line for a callup.
