Eller is cleared for contact, which means he is not on IR any longer, so we're over now.

So glad that Eller is probably back. This guy is the perfect third line center. Big, rangy and great defensively. Desharnais - move aside big guy

I am pretty sure Yemelin lost out to Diaz for the last spot on D.

I just read the projected d-men in Lapresse, based on today's practice:

Gill-Subban
Georges - Campoli
Spacek - Diaz

I like the Habs, but that D is VERY scary. Making the playoffs with that D is not a given. Habs will have to battle hard. They not only need Markov back in good shape, I really think they also need Emelin to develop very fast, + another d-man in a trade.

Many here won't agree, but it's my opinion.

I agree, but let's not forget that we can expect Markov to be back within a few games and we've got Yemelin that can step in. (I'd pick him over Diaz personally, but w/e)

Look on the bright side. While not a dominant D lineup, it's there is a mobile and fast-passer on every pairing. Plus, our centers can be expected to add pressure in order to catch the opposition in our transition play, all the more helped with either bona-fide or at least acceptable PMD.

The whole is much better than the sum of the parts, specially for our lineup that has chesmistry burgeoning.

I hope so.

But personally, I wasn't impressed by Emelin. Maybe it is just a matter of adapting (ice, NHL, team system, language) -- it is very probable. But I didn't find him very good in his own territory, which probably why Martin prefer Diaz for now. In the D-zone, he's very passive, doesn't block shots, not physical beside the occasional big hits. He's above average at moving the puck, but again, nothing to write home about since he doesn't have the killer shot or the killer pass to go with it.

Anyway, let's hope he adapts, because if not, that would mean PG will have to sacrifice something in a trade, which will be sad because the Habs have many young d-men coming up in the up-coming years.

You may be right, but I'm not as optimist as you are.

I really hope you're right because honnestly, that's the worse 6 d-men I saw with the Habs since the Houle area.

I don't remember us getting jammed in our zone very much in the 2 pre season games against tampa.

Yemelin is at least as good as Spacek at passing/shooting, plus he's more mobile and hits harder. I think he's also way better at playing the left side than the right side, it's too bad the majority of the time he played on the right.

Honestly, I don't care much about pre-season. Other teams didn't had much time to video-study the weaknesses yet.
