Only 6 d-men going to Europe? Lydman is ready? Rodney recalled or Murray is trolling the waiver wire.

Yes. Syracuse plays the Marlies tomorrow and Tuesday for preseason. Wish them luck.

McMillan can always be moved to defense if we are in a jam.

Lydman is hopeful to play in the Sabres game but has stated a few times that he won't play if his shoulder isn't 100%.

Haven't heard anything new on that front, just that he is on schedule and it should be sometime around the game that he should be good to go.

Was his shoulder ever 100% last season?

Sbisa?

What kind of playing time do you expect from him this year?

PP time?

Think he can reach 20-30 pts?

Around 16-18 minutes a game I think.

He should be on the 2nd PP unit with Foster as well as I believe Anaheim want to keep Beauch off it so he can PK more.

20-30 points isn't a stretch but it's going to come down if the 2nd PP can improve and if he can put up some more points at even strength, he needs to use his shot more as it's a cannon

Sbisa plays on the second PP unit which doesn't get a lot of time. Last year he got 11 points in 68 games so 20 points sounds about right. His ice team probably varies through the season since he presumably plays top pairing minutes at the beginning of the season because Lydman is injured but when he returns, Sbisa should be on the 3rd pair. A bit under 20 minutes maybe?

Sbisa would put up more points if he didn't try to kill every goalie with his shot. He sacrifices accuracy for speed, and his wind-up takes half a shift to get off.

I think he'll average around 18 minutes, and with 2nd unit PP time I think 20-25 is a realistic number for him.

Sbisa really didn`t surprised me this offseason, so i expect 10-15 points for him. He`s shown no sign of improvement yet.

Yeah, he pretty much looks the same as last year so far, and last year he looked like a 3rd pairing defenseman. He reminds me of a more physical version of Huskins right now.

As long as he doesn't regress I think not noticing him much at all would be more of a good thing than bad. He just needs to keep being physical and needs to be solid in his own zone. That would be just fine if he is going to be paired with Fowler in the future. He does amaze me every now and then with some of his passes. He seems to be getting a bit fancy and more comfortable though. Got to love those Sbisaramas.

Obviously it would be nice if he could produce more. With not a lot of PP time it's tough. Maybe he will be told to shoot more by the coaching staff. Would be even more nice if the staff would say that to all our players

I don't mind him being physical, but I'd really rather not see him going out of his way to make big hits. He put himself out of position a bunch of times last season trying to lay someone out.

If he tops out at this level, I'm not sure he'd be good enough to be Fowler's partner, to be perfectly honest. Maybe it's just me, but I'd be uncomfortable with him as the last man back if Cam jumps into the play down low. I can just picture him trying to stop the play at the opposing blue line with a hit, instead of backing off and sticking to the middle of the ice, and then it's a 2 on 0 against. That's exactly the kind of thing Wisniewski would do as Scotty's partner, and that kind of bad habit comes about from wanting to make the big hits. I really see some of that in Sbisa, and I don't like it. Sbisa isn't nearly as bone-headed as Weaser was, but you get what I'm saying.

He just needs to improve, and work on being conservative at the right times. That way I have nothing to ***** about.

Sbisa is still young and will get yelled at once he gets on the bench if he does anything like that so I doubt that will happen much. But he loves to hit and throw a hipcheck so something bad along those lines will happen. Hoping we don't have to worry about him peaking anytime soon. Although he will be shielded this year by being on the bottom pairing.

This year will be a better year for him I think, more defensively too. Hoping he also isn't left out to dry by his partners like Fowler last year. Brookbank seems to be getting back to his play from the year before and in only a few games I don't really dislike Guenin.

Can we clone Lydman so we can have that one play with Fowler?

If we're cloning, why not clone Niedermayer? Hell, clone 2. One of them can play with Fowler.

Defenseman Kurtis Foster (leg) and forward Matt Beleskey (shoulder) are “very, very close” to returning, according to Carlyle. He said both players could be available for the Ducks’ regular season opener here Friday against Buffalo.

Defenseman Toni Lydman (shoulder) has increased his activity in practice this week and continues to progress. His timetable for returning, however, remains behind those of Foster and Beleskey.
