Here's another issue: On Wednesday someone is going to have to be sent to the Phantoms because the Flyers technically have to carry Ian Laperriere's salary for a day while he is officially put on LTIR.

to me it's pretty obvious that they will start Schenn down in the Ahl.
Playing well for Rinaldo means not doing anything stupid. There's no way he should make the team over someone like Nodl.
of course he can/will. Nodl is a dime a dozen player and I've heard may not even have a roster spot anymore. Rinaldo threw hits, had some good fights, played hard and drew the coaching staffs praise. Nodl is wallpaper, he hasn't improved, skates hard but doesn't do anything when he gets there.
I don't hate Nodl but he just doesn't bring anything and doesn't have any upside. On a cap crunched team the fact that Zac makes almost half what Nodl does is not insignificant either.

See bold. You defined Jody Shelley. Or Max Talbot. Or Ian Laperriere. Or Darroll Powe. Or Matt Walker. Or Dan freaking Carcillo.
Zac Rinaldo, by his very definition as an enforcer, is not only a dime a dozen player but is also a member of a dying breed.
What separates the Rinaldos and Shelleys of this world from the Talbots and Laperrieres is defensive play, cool-headedness, smart play, and leadership.
Nodl may not fight, but he throws hits and plays hard, particularly along the walls.
Guess what? He plays decisively, he's cool-headed, and he makes smart plays. No leadership, but he's not exactly a veteran yet.
Nodl is 1000x the NHL player Rinaldo is.
And if you suddenly think Rinaldo has better hands than Nodl because of one nice goal in preseason you're completely off your rocker. Remember Carcillo's nice goals? How much did that do for him exactly?
Nodl is a guaranteed 30 points, smart play, cool-headed play, and defensive abilities.
7th dman i like would rather have him then walker.........
I'd rather have Walker if money is no object. Walker is the better player, and Bartulis is more bang-for-your-buck. There is no reason why Lilja has a contract.

Nodl was one of the Flyers best defensive forwards last season. He played against the toughest competition while having the lowest goals against on ice per 60. He is perfectly fine as a bottom 6 forward making less than a mil. He also has more offensive ability than Rinaldo.
As for Rinaldo? Wake me up when fighting and hitting alone wins you hockey games. Rinaldo may be more entertaining, but he does nothing to contribute in any meaningful way.
