Jason MacIsaac, one of our guys in the QMJHL, put together a list of 10 eligibles to keep an eye on, much like Cody Nickolet did for us in the WHL and Sean Lafortune in the OHL.
Included in that list is Charles Hudon:
Charles Hudon – Chicoutimi Saguenéens
One of the more skilled players to come from the QMJHL this year, NHL teams will have to ask the question, will his skill outweigh the size concerns with Charles Hudon. Hudon is an average skater for his size which doesn’t bode well for this diminutive offensive force.
He has an excellent shot and reads the play very well. If he can improve his speed he may have good pro potential at the NHL level. This coming season, Hudon should be close to the league lead in points, which will garner him extra attention.
I've seen plenty of Taylor Burke, and while his size and skating are definitely a plus, I'm somewhat skeptical of his skill level.
But then again, it was prior to his major injury, last season. I'd probably be able to give a better assessment later this season.
At this point, I'm pretty convinced Burke isn't the best player on his draft-year on this team -- that would be Alexandros Soumakis, but Soumakis is 5'6 (... and 195 pounds), so that might scare some scouts.
I like Ciampini as a dark horse first round pick. He's one of the most efficient scorers within 5 feet of the net I've seen in a long time. He's not one of those players that uses superior speed or minor league stick handling tricks to score his goals.
He's a hard guy to give a comparable for, but he looks like Ryan Smyth without the physical assertiveness if that makes any sense.
