Hull retiring, effective immediately

TSN - Brett Hull's Hall of Fame career has come to an end

Wow. Most people had a feeling that this would be his last year, but I don't think any anticipated it would last only 5 games. Great career... sad to see him go like this.

I was thinking the other day that Robitaille might just want to call it a career if he's still so slow out there in a few months, but I didn't think a great player would throw in the towel in the middle of a season. Hull just proved me wrong. Could Luc be next? He hasn't been looking very "lucky" out there under the new rules so far. It could just get to the point where Andy scratches him again and Luc decides to hang 'em up this time.

Ya this makes me greatly fear for Luc.... To be truthful he has been horrible. Been getting the shots but can't hit the net and to slow. // Sad to here about Hull will only help us having him out of the division but he was great to watch

Very odd/sad: They went through all that trouble of un-retiring his father's #, and now this.

I think Luc is fine for the rest of the year.

You just have to be careful with the guy. Can't give him to many minutes and put him in situations that he can still excel at. He is still one of the best set piece snipers in the game.

I gotta admit, he hasn't been one of my favorites, but all the best to him. He had a great career.

Comments from Robitaille on Hull's retirement...

I don't agree with Luc's perception of Hull's reasons. They don't sound anything like what Brett himself said during his press conference. Among other things he talked about not being able to meet expectations and was visably upset by the end result. Perhaps a little denial from #20...?

"There's an old expression, and I don't know who said it - `The mind is willing but the body isn't,"' Hull said.

Many have said that over the years. A variation of Jesus Christ's:
Matthew 26:41 - Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Doubt it that Stevie hangs 'em. As long as Stevie has 2 legs he will play. That is to say, the Wings are always competitive and he can afford to rest up and come back for playoffs. The Coyotes on the other hand...

I like the quote from Futurama better. Zapp Brannigan...."The spirit is willing but the body is spongy and bruised".

Is it me, or does Luc look like a snail out there? (more than before) Despite his denial I think he should follow in the footsteps of Hull and give some of our kids a chance. Though he's had many good years with us I think the "skating" issue is much bigger this year.

Anyway, I know he is only getting about 14 minutes a game, but it seems like 14 minutes of trailing the play.
