Pretty sure Read is not waiver-free elgible, but I'm not entirely positive. Read throws an interesting wrench into the lineup. Would he benefit more, and as a result the team benefit more, if he played in the second line? He'd have more offensive responsibilities with less defensive ones. That means you either slot Hartnell, or Voracek on the 3rd line, but neither is outstanding and defense either.
Read on the lineup basically means that our 4th line will be getting top defenseive priorities, unless management believes that Schenn and Simmonds are adequate enough for that job. It will be interesting to say the least.
Maybe a line of Nodl-Schenn-Simmonds could be our 3rd line, and Read could be moved to the 4th line? I dont know.

Well since Read will be playing on the pk this year and he is defensive responsible I dont think it will be a problem for play on the 3rd line. If Read is on the 4th line, might as well send him back to the AHL. Would be a waste.

I think it depends on who is taking his spot on the third line. If Nodl gets the spot, then yes big time waste to have Read playing on the fourth line. If Couturier gets it, I am fine with Read on the fourth line.

Meh, just send Read back to the AHL then. You dont play a player who is mostly offensive (with some defensive skills) on a 4th line with players like Betts/Shelly/Rinaldo etc

Why not? This up and coming era of the NHL, you pretty much play the BPA. Read is as suitable for the 4th line as he is for the 3rd line. He'll be there with Talbot and Betts, and the 3 of them will be excellent defensively and forechecking fiends...which leads to offense.

You dont put skilled guys on the 4th line. I have also never been a fan of that. It has showed on almost every team that putting skilled guys on the 4th line can be damaging to them in the future. Read has good defensive skills but his speed and offensive skills are alot better. Also.. one of Read's faults is his checking. Being a small guy doesnt help.
Luckily though, I dont see Lavy being that kind of coach so hopefully we dont see that.
It might sound crazy but I can see them maybe trying it. We dont have the personal as we did last season, but they have tried the 3 scoring lines thing for a long time.

I'm behind, is this the official or what is considered to be the official lineup in game 1 of the season?

Naw just speculation. We dont even know who technically has made the team. All that was confirmed by Homer is that Read has made it. We dont know which of Couturier/Schenn/Rinaldo/Harry Z made it. I was saying IF they tried the 3 scoring lines. Im more along the lines of:
JVR-Giroux-Jagr
Hartnell-Briere-Voracek
Read-Schenn/Couturier-Simmonds
Talbot-Betts-Rinaldo/Nodl/Harry Z
Until they offically announce the roster, this is a total guess.

RT @davegisaac: Welp, Paul Holmgren just admitted that @read1mat made the #Flyers roster on NHL Network. There's one less question.

I am pretty sure there is just 1 more spot left up in the air for Opening Night, and it's only the battle between the 12th forward vs the 13th (the healthy scratch). I would guess that Rinaldo has the inside track over Nodl while Shelley is suspended, since they usually like to have a "mix-it-up" guy. Defense and goalies have been ostensibly set all along. They are not obligated to make any cap moves until Schenn comes up, and that's only if they decide to keep Couturier all year.
I like Rinaldo in Boston over Nodl. He can help with physicality. You know Boston is going to try and come out and physically dominate like they did in the playoffs
Betts is better than the wastes of space known as Jody Shelley and Zac Rinaldo. It's a stupid move. Holmgen continues to weaken the team defense.
weaken team defense by waiving a guy who cannot skate, is playing with one shoulder which shows when he cannot push people off of the puck. You need to be able to skate on the pk, when he is on the ice the team holds it in the zone no problem, just skate around him.

Guess what though? The guy with one shoulder still outbeat out new 4th line center (Talbot) in faceoffs (by a decent amount).
Thats pretty encouraging.
Add a stupid penalty taker in Rinaldo, minus one of our biggest pkers in Betts = worse pk. Thats great.

Nodl doesn't hurt physicality at all, and he can play defensive hockey. Rinaldo won't sniff the ice in a close game, whereas Nodl probably would, as well as PK time.
