Good to see Salak getting the second goalie spot in Chicago. I still remember the day when he arrived to Finland and to my fav team TPS. He was so uncertain at first and I thought that he will never become an elite goaltender in Finland. But our goalie coach Urpo "Upi" Ylönen made the miracle again (Ylönen was for example Miikka Kiprusoff's goalie coach in past) and after two years Salak was the best goalie of Finnish SM-liiga.

I really think that Salak is going to be a starter in NHL in future.

Agreed, I've also been sold on him since Ylonen (top 3 goalie coach in the world) helped him put it all together. I'm excited to see him work with another highly regarded coach in Waite and take his game to the next level.

I assume they will just release their final roster for opening night rather than make a formal announcment on the backup goalie spot. It's possible they could be negotiating a two way contract with Emery so he can play for Rockford, but there are much better options for the AHL spot than Emery. I have to think they've seen enough to know he isn't an upgrade over Richards, especially considering he just said the hip feels great.

I don't know but the fact that Emery has NHL experiance, and has been to a Stanley Cup final, should better his chances at making this team.

So his accomplishments from 4 yrs ago should be what he is judged on?

They did better his chances of making the team, quite a bit actually...so much so that the coach was on firmly on his side. The only scenario where Emery wasn't going to win the job was if he got completely blown out of the water by Salak and Emery was consistently bad from beginning to end. Well, this may be the understatement of the season, but it happened.

I will puke a little if Emery makes the team.

Send a message via ICQ to DisgruntledHawkFan
Could be a two-way contract. Hopefully.

Come on Bowman, are you really this stupid? Better be a two way where he starts in Rockford because Emery will drag this team down in the standings if given the chance.

I can understand wanting to get Salak some time in Rockford. It makes sense, If, and undoubtedly when Emery falters, Salak will be up, and he'll be fresh as he's going to start a majority of the games.

I'd give Emery 3-5 games before it happens. They're going to chalk it up to "rust", but I can't see them doing the same thing as last year.

But hey, I never expected Emery to get a contract, but it makes sense, seeing as they need someone for Rockford.
