The only one of Shanny's decisions so far I disagree with is the Boyes' suspension. While illegal and definitely should be penalized, I don't think that warranted a suspension.

I forgot that Jagr was back in the league. I can't wait for Ovechkin to pound the **** out of him. I hope Ted puts up a big bounty.

Chris Neil just knocked out Grabovski with a shoulder to the head completely away from the puck. What is going on this preseason? Its one stupid head shot after another.

Cooke, sometime near the TDL, I'd bet. He'll have a couple close calls during the season, but will hit the big time by the spring, I'd put money on it.

What on earth is happening in LA? Doughty needs to stop being a ***** and sign.

He's not even close to the best player who has "eaten" a marginally discounted rfa contract recently.

Steckel still looks strange in a Devils jersey.

Is it my imagination or is half the league trying to get one more good headshot in before the season starts and they cant do it anymore? Malone brains Campoli tonight. There's one or two every night and this was not happening last season.

I don't know. Some of it is definitely the much increased level of scrutiny. If you are looking for things more you are going to see them more. That is just the way it is...

Tikhonov cleared.
Alexandre Giroux cleared, but is apparently sticking in Columbus for the time being.

Do they count every month towards that 18 or just months where they play games?

The CBA doesn't specify, so I assume it means calendar months, since they have specific names for things that mean only during the hockey season.

The exact language:
Quote:
Status as a "first" or "repeat" offender shall be re-determined every eighteen (18) months, on a rolling basis, i.e., where a Player does not have another suspension for eighteen (18) months, his next suspension will be treated as a "first" offense.
from the CBA 18.3.c

I don't think there is any huge amount more of these type of hits overall, but the amount of stupid ones seems to be on the rise. The hits along the boards stuck out to me because there were a couple where the guy had his back turned the whole way and gets railed.

In former Caps prospects news, Andrew Gordon has made Anaheim's opening night roster.

If he plays with Selanne, he'll put up 50 points for no reason.

Blair Betts on waivers today (among others, Avery being the big name obviously).

He's a guy (Betts) that I'd always wanted for our 4th line. Has his game fallen off that much?

I didn't see anything is his game last year that indicated much drop-off. For the last several years, he's been an excellent 4C and PKer.

When you're a 4th liner, it doesn't take much drop-off to get waived.

Maybe if he gets bought out we can sign him to a 3 year deal at a $2 million cap hit.

Montreal is absolutely going to jump on Betts. No way he gets past the Habs, if he even reaches them.
