Looks like a border line 4th liner ... with a ton of grit

Who gets sent down because of this, Volpatti, Oreskovich?

Think Jason Ward.

He fights but is not a "fighter"

- Captained several rangers prospect squads
- Slow skater
- Could knock in probably 10-15 goals at the NHL level

Well, since Byron Bitz looks to be KO'd for the season I guess this guy is an 'experiment replacement'; another player who has had some success scoring in the AHL.

Ya, sounds like another fourth liner.

First thing I said was who?

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p....php?pid=80353
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dale_Weise

6'2", 206. Decent size
Put up some points and PIMs in the AHL.
Fought Carcillo in his first NHL game.

He's not gonna score a lot, and he probably isn't going to win any fights against any experienced fighters. He'll knock some guys around and go to the net though, and in that regard he serves his purpose well.

Sort of a weird player to waste a contract slot on when you're up against the ceiling. Manageable cap hit on a two-way, but we'd have to get him through waivers to get him down to the Wolves. Don't really see him on the roster unless he replaces Oreskovich or Volpatti, but both those guys have been playing relatively well.

I'd assume he's the 13th forward, and will compete with Oreo and Volpatti for a slot.

Not sure what the point is, we have enough of this type of player. I prefer to just keep Volpatti on the 4th until Kesler and Raymond come back.

Hrm, they must be really down on Oreskovich to just demote him and bring in some random guy that wasn't even in camp, and I'd assume just blindly pencil him into that slot. Or they really like this Dale Weise character I guess.

And there's the answer. Surprised Oreo isn't being used after he showed some nice moves and great energy in the late preseason. Hopefully he doesn't get picked up.

edit: Possible thought - this is planning for later on, when the Canucks depth gets healthy. It's easier to send Oreo through waivers now than it is later in the season.

I think they just see a guy that has shown more at the AHL level while bringing everything that Oreskovich brings and more. The only real knock on him is his skating, I think. He's still young too.

I didn't watch many games but Victor seemed to be good in the pre season. Weird move.

I thought Oreo looked great at the end of the pre-season. I don't think I will ever understand why Vigneault makes some of the moves he makes.

I can't say I'm a fan of this move. I liked Oreo's improvements as the pre-season went on. Not sure what Weise is going to bring other than an average (at best) fight record.

Oreo didn't impress me as much as I thought he would this preseason. Wasn't physical enough and did get knocked around more than he should. Wake up call for him more than anything else I think.

Wow, I find that really surprising. Oreskovich was one of the few guys battling for a bottom-six spot that actually seemed to get better as camp wore on. And he's definitely played more at a high level than Weise. Weird move.
