I do to but the hand writing was on the wall when our PK'ers did a good job in the preseason and Betts did not play all that much.

I as a big fan of Betts. But if he's gotta go that's the nature of the beast.

Glad Walker's gone. Hopefully Shelley is next.

Definitely not Simmonds, the guy had about half a minute of PK time for the entire season last year...and I don't trust JVR on the PK. Nodl and Schenn could be serviceable though.

I guess we'll find out as the season goes on.

I agree with you here. Gus played alright, but I am not sure another year in the AHL would not serve him best. He will be in trouble defending the crease. He is no Kimmo right now.

So, is this how we'll start the season?

I don't know, I still would have preferred to keep guys like Betts and Bartulis to start the season and make the moves later on if either they didn't keep up, or Rinaldo/Gustafsson made sure by their play with the Phantoms that they deserved the spots.

yeah its gonna be cool seeing Shelley and Rinaldo getting suspended multiple times instead of having a good Pker around.

I agree with your lineup except Lilja is our 6th and Gus is 7th
Also Lappy only has to be in our lineup for one game I believe.

Simmonds was out there on the PK in the preseason wasnt he?
not sure how he would hold up all season. we may not have much choice but to put him out there on the PK

Any chance they're making room for a trade? Maybe a fa signing? Id like to give JP Dumont a chance to rejuvenate his career...

I agree with you on Betts. Bartulis was nothing special. We have about 12 Bartulises in our system. Not bad, but easily replaceable.

Makes no sense to have Gustafsson sitting in the press box, if he is up with the team he'll most likely start the majority of the games.

Lappy only goes on LTIR if/when necessary. Or, in other words, when they feel the need to get Schenn back. It's not a good thing to utilize the LTIR, you try to avoid it for as long as possible.

The only forwards on our current roster who played regular PK are Giroux and Talbot. Nodl played 35 seconds a game.

Looks like we are going to rely heavily on Bryz/Read/Couturier and maybe Simmonds, too (Simmonds averaged 5 seconds/game on the PK last year).

I wanted Schenn on the squad...

I hope this is mainly injury-related.

I'm now reassessing my thoughts on the Organization's outlook on the next season and future... I believed Homer when he said that he didn't really know what this team would be like this season as far as being better or not compared to last season... And I believe that the team wanted to stay in contention but wanted to make a culture change within the ranks and restructure the leadership by bringing more natural leaders and character guys.

But with Schenn possibly going to The A and Couturier staying up (a least 10 games) and Betts being waived and Gus possibly staying... added to all else that has gone down... I am now under the impression that the Flyers are willing to take a step or two back and be a bubble team fighting again for the playoffs as they gear up for the long haul as hopefully a perennial Cup contender with a new young core group supported by veterans.

Just a feeling... I expect an exciting team and season, but don't expect a long Cup quest this season... I hope I'm proven wrong and the team gels faster than I think.

I doubt it. It's not a sure thing that any of the players we just waived gets claimed. If one or two does get claimed, I hope we won't go right out and replace them either. It's usually pretty nice to have a contract spot or two to play with, it makes any potential trades later on in the season easier.

I don't see Dumont being a good fit with this team either. I liked him when he was in Buffalo, but with the way our top 9 is structured at the moment his type isn't exactly what we're lacking.

So then who is the 7th Dman? There has to be a trade coming. Otherwise Schenn will be in AHL the entire season and I have no idea who the 7th Dman is. Unless I'm missing something, Bartulis and Gus are both out, right? So its Pronger, Mez, Timonen, Coburn, Carle, Lilja, and who else???

Aren't we a D-man short with Walker and Bart waived and Gus sent down?

Only six being carried?
