Wow, i rarely say this but if Betts falls to them, they have to pick him up. He's a prototypical 4th line center. He's big, fast, kills penalties and is decent on faceoffs. This is a no-brainer.
It's just a 4th line but man, that would be dope. Engqvist, who i actually really was excited about picking up last year, is more of a 3rd line center type, in that he's not an energy, forecheck guy. He makes me think of bonk a lot, and no one would ever put Bonk on the 4th line. 4th lines are for guys that hit, skate, and drive you nuts. Engqvist is none of these things. With Eller and Desharnais more than capable and better suited as 3rd line centers, i think Engqvist is thus superfluous on the team.
What I find funny is in the other thread people are whining about Palushaj > Blunden on the 4th line.
One guy is an AHLer on the cusp of being an NHLer. The other guy isn't even close and you want him on our 4th line? Glad our management team is who they are and not some members from this board

Never thought of comparing Engqvist as a Bonk type player. Me think this is quite a valid point. Tends to show that we do not have any able roster body to fill the 4th line center spot adequately as I would agree that DD and Eller are more 3rd line material also.
DD can't be sent down, so it comes down to Eller versus Enqvist and....well...that is also a no brainer.
I would be mad (and I will, most likely) if they don't pick up Betts. I mean the guy's a decent 4th liner who can play Center. He's definitely an upgrade over Engqvist, the guy who couldn't do anything on the ice during the pre-season.

Blunden was more noticeable than Palushaj.
Right now, there's a bunch of players on waivers. Placing him on waivers, doesn't mean Blunden is for sure going down. It just means in 2 weeks from now if they want to send him down, they can. Though, just saw Moen is ready I believe...
Betts had 82 hits in 75 games along with a 50.3 faceoff percentage.
I'd like him, but I don't see him as our main need for a bottom 6 guy.

IMO, right now that need is anyone who is likely to contribute more to winning games than Engqvist. I'd say Betts is a safer bet to deliver than the rookie.
How early can a player be picked up off of waivers? 24 hours?
I was under the impression that you had to waive players before noon and they cleared the next day at noon or 2 days later at noon for weekends (someone correct me if needed)
Just like to say, I'd love to see the Habs pick up Betts on waivers. Hopefully 17th will be high enough to grab him.
Good on faceoffs, great Penalty Killer, Size, Hard worker, responsible defensively 5 on 5.... he's got all the attributes we need for the fourth line centre role.
He'd be better than Engqvist who showed me very little in preseason (good positionally is all I can say about him).
Betts' shoulder is apparently shot and according to Philly fans he's nowhere near as good on faceoffs as he used to be. Sometimes it helps to ask why another team is waiving a player..

Isn't there a rule that if a player is injured, he can't be waived and needs to stay on the roster or IR in camp?

That's true. You would have to wonder how a team who traded their top 2 centers this summer could afford to waive a cheap dependable center unless he lost what made him valuable in the first place.

I'm thinking that's why... For someone who's suppose to be good on faceoffs, 50.3 percent is pretty bad.
