He has been really good so far, but what if we end up keeping both Schenn and Couturier on the roster for the full season? Read might very well find himself on the fourth line playing with Talbot and Nödl. He might still turn in a solid rookie season and do what's being asked of him, but it wouldn't exactly lead to a calder season.
Sorry to be a pessimist here... but I don't see any of our rookies win the calder. Not enough time on the top six and pp for them to come into consideration imo.
Good to see that someone like Read (who flew a bit below the radar before the presesaon with focus being on Schenn and Couturier) has showed enough to impress McKenzie though.

Management hasnt showed they want Couturier on the wing at all. What Read does have in his favor is the possibility to play wing and center. Like last practice he is on the wing, and this practice he was playing center. I wouldnt go as far to say he would win the Calder, but I think Read is going to do a solid job. We might see him out on PP and PK.
He is clueless. The worst gm in the league. All he wants are goons on the team. He only makes mistakes. He should be fired. He is retarded. He cannot manage the cap.Anyone can do a better job than him. I can go on and on and on and on and on and on as to why he should be gone
I can see read put up 20 goals this year, question is the assists. We all know points are usually what determine awards for the most part in the nhl, but if he can stay close to the top I think his ability to play all situations and hopefully his success on the pk can help his cause if he is infact in running for the award.
i highly doubt it. he may start off well, but will fizzle....that's not to say he wont turn into a solid player in the future
What is lucky for us (well for the Calder trophy anyway) is that the players who try to win the Calder Trophy are also rookies and also will most likely fizzle.

Yeah, if I were to guess what will happen if Couturier stays up it is that he'll be centering the fourth line, but the chances of Read ending up on the fourth line is still a bit too high for me to place a bet on him winning the calder.
When he makes good moves he gets credit. Just like he gets criticism when it's deserved.
He does, but his good moves are given a passing comment about how every now and then a blind squirrel finds the nut while his bad moves are all the worst moves in the history of the NHL, even though most of the so-called bad moves have had a much smaller impact than the good ones. I wish I never made that initial comment on this thread...
Because a TSN analyst (Bob McKenzie) picks Matt Read as his 'preseason' Calder Trophy winner. This is somehow redeeming to Paul Holmgren? Lets not count our chickens just yet.

Obviously the season has to play out, but its pretty clear regardless of Calder Trophy or not, Read appears to be a solid signing one way or another. I don't think at this point anyone would argue that.

To this point, yes the signing looks good. That is all. Smearing this in people's faces is a little premature.
