Not quite sure why this post ended up in this thread, but I agree.

Winchester is known to be a great teammate and a pretty good locker room guy. He's the type of player you want around, whether he's playing or sitting in the press box.
yeah like that hot head Scott Nichol, gosh, what a freaking weirdo. was a total cancer in the locker room.

Oh whew. I was getting worried I'd be going into the season without a Wallin whipping boy replacement. All is well.

Good signing, not sure all the negativity in this thread. But then again, we are infamous for calling "game over" when the Sharks go down 2-0 after the 1st.

Game over? The season is over after the Sharks got down 1-0 after the first period in the first preseason game.

This is not even an exaggeration for some teams' fans. Also, HF in general is guilty of calling a player's career over if he doesn't perform immediately at a very high level.

I'm fine with it. I think he brings an element that the team would have otherwise been lacking, and I've liked what I've seen from him so far (although that hasn't been much). The only thing I don't like about this is the Sharks are now even closer against the maximum amount of players that they can employ. I think there is what, 1 spot left? For a team loading up for a cup run maybe that's no so bad, especially as any trades down the line might require players going out.

This made me laugh and then go sad when I came to the realization that there is much truth in it.

I joined the forums this year during the playoffs and the attitude of our average fan is definitely very pessimistic. And we give up as soon as we go down 2-0 .. or even 1-0.

Maybe things will change after this season .. when we hoist the cup ...

I'm curious, how'd you come up with 4mil in cap space? It looks to me like it's going to be closer to 1.5mil.

Ah, that makes sense, but by the time everyone is "healthy" it's still not going to be $4mil in cap space...the other line up is probably going to be close to their opening day roster, which is way closer to the salary cap.

Even right at this moment we should have about $2m in cap space (capgeek is not up to date with the recent waiver transactions). So even $2m in cap space is a lot more than we've had in previous years.

If that's how the team looks, I gotta say I'm pretty stoked. Think it looks good across the board, subject to how the bottom 6 work out. At least we have some options to tweak it if need be.

Winchester is a good depth signing. No harm, no foul.

My guess for the lineup on Sat.
Even with Havlat out, I HATE the idea of Mcginn playing the second line. We really need to get a good scoring winger who can play the 3rd line, but is capable of stepping into the top 6. Because if any of our top 6 forwards get hurt for an extended period of time, we're stuck giving a borderline NHLer top 6 minutes simply because he's our only player outside the top 6 with any offensive upside whatsoever.
