Wouldn't it make sense if we're rotating Yemelin and Diaz that we use Diaz against the offensive teams and Yemelin against the grittier teams?

I think Yemelin should play against Toronto.

Yeah I'm still a bit shocked to think Emelin won't be in the lineup opening night. To his credit, however, Diaz put himself in this position through his play. Emelin didn't bust, Diaz outplayed him and Weber both. It's only camp, though.

Does anybody know more about it?

If so, I think he'll play in the AHL, because nobody will pick him up. He's just not a NHL defenseman.
Your Weber bashing is still annoying, I thought you changed your opinion after last season but if you still think he isn't an NHL defenseman, I can't help you..
He was an average Dman on a playoff team, not more, not less. And he's still young.

Yemelin not playing opening night (if true) doesn't mean the organization has made any real decision about him anyway. Maybe they just think he needs more seasoning than Diaz, and needs more time practising on NHL ice. Or they could come back for the 2nd game with Diaz scratched and Yemelin playing. So it's pointless to read anything into it yet.

Looks like the adjustment curve is alot steeper for Yemelin, than it is Diaz...i'm guessing language/communication is at the root of this.

I'm not worried...I remember another Russian dman who had obvious talent, having difficulty adjusting at first...Andrei Markov

Except you now have to add Betts and most likely remove Engqvist.

I don't think there is much to worry about with Yemelin finding playing time. All we have to do is look at how many D we went through last year. Being 7/8 on the depth chart probably guarantees about 60 games on this team!

Actually I remember he was still pretty damn good despite not speaking any English. Vigneault if I recall never wanted to play him because Markov couldn't understand a thing. But to anyone watching him the talent was undeniable, and it was frustrating as can be watching losers like Karl Dykhuis out there while Markov sat, especially on a team that was going to be terrible anyway.

I don't see anything intimidating about Toronto's forwards. Grabo, Kessel, McAurthur, Kadri, Connolly, Lupul? Meh. Kulemin is a good hitter, Armstrong is a good but cheap hitter... I'm not too worried about it.

Please tell me this is some sort of cruel joke that management is playing on us regarding Diaz.

They don't actually plan on playing him the top 6 come tomorrow do they?!

What do they see in him?

He looks like he has the strength of a 14 year old boy on the ice..

What is wrong with trying Diaz against an AHL club?

Replace Enqvist by Betts now in your projected lineups

I don't know what Diaz did to you or your mom, but he has been the better dman out of the three on the bubble for the 6th spot, hence being the 6th dman tomorrow. I mean, is it really that hard to understand?...

If Markov doesn't play 60 games this year, Fire the team doctor.

I will be SERIOUSLY happy when he is demoted to the AHL. Where he belongs.

Just wait until he starts the season -3 his first game because he can't control the big forwards.

exactly. I really think JM will rotate between emelin and diaz for fast teams or teams with alot of grit. Toronto fowards have 0 grit. Alot less than us. I think Emelin plays on sunday against guys like ladd, fehr, cormier, kane, thoburn ect.

Leafs pretty much have armstrong and a 4th line.
