David Aebischer deal is an ahl contract with #icecaps not a two way with #winnipegjets
Peter Mannino is the odd man out...
Lol, posted this in TC Cuts thread yesterday...

If I was Aebischer, I would sign an AHL contract with St. John's and if he plays well there he could sign anywhere as the season progresses and there is an opening somewhere he would be free to sign there, rather than tieing himself to the Jets(assuming St. John's/Winnipeg wants him there).
Mannino has bounced around AHL teams - it seems every time I look at the AHL he's on a different roster.
Mannino has actually only played for two AHL teams - Bridgeport and Chicago.

Yes, as it is an AHL deal, he can sign with any NHL team. A few years ago Brian Boucher signed with the Flyers' AHL affiliate and later on that year signed a deal with San Jose.

That would be the two I've seen him with. It's been about 3 years or so that he's been with those teams, when I see a goalie who has played for more than one AHL team I tend to get a bit wary of their ability to be a decent goalie. I know Mannino had no shot at the Jets, but if there are NHL capable goalies ahead of him, Mannino isn't going to get a good look in the AHL either.
Bleh. Looks like I'm the only one here who prefers Mason over him. Not a big fan of this signing at all.
This St. John's signing means nothing for the Jets. He is St. John's property, meaning he is available for any team in the league to sign at any time. I imagine will try to be dominate there and wait for an opening somewhere, a team with a goalie injury or a really struggling goalie might add him as a temporary measure or give him a chance. This may be the Jets if Pavelec or Mason get injured for any length of time, but it could be any team.
I think this means the end of Mannino here, likely be reassigned to another AHL team or loaned to Europe until his contract expires at the end of the year. Unless they plan on sending both Pasquale and Carrozzi to ECHL(and imagine one would go to our ECHL team, whom I cannot remember who that is at the moment and another loaned somewhere so they could both start), but I think Pasquale should be in the AHL getting 30-40 games as he seems to be ready for that.
Then next year move Pasquale into the starters role on the Rock and Carrozzi as the backup while signing a veteran backup for Pavelec.
Maybe the year after go with a Pavelec/Pasquale tandem, just cause that would be a tongue twister tandem But that is projecting a long ways.

Just to be clear, he cannot be called up on this contract no, but he is free to sign with any NHL team (without passing through waivers, BTW, since he is playing in NA not Europe ala Wellwood/Svatos) so he is eligible to play in NHL this year with any team. Just needs a contract.
I'm very happy we signed him. I want people who want to compete, and thats exactly what he's looking to do. He is driven to make it back to the NHL, and I believe his play will show this.
Good to see the guy take the a contract. Shows he's gonna battle for a position in the nhl when the chance comes, just like BB did a year or so ago.
I don't see what everyone is saying about his games being great this preseason though. I have a hell of a lot more confidence in Mason, considering Abby said he was fighting for a spot on any roster this preseason, not just ours. And mason clearly wasn't putting a full effort in this preseason, as its only the preseason and his spot wasn't in jeopardy.
I LOVE this signing. I do not believe any of our goaltending prospects are ready for the big leagues and this gives us depth in the position in case of an injury (assuming we sign him to an NHL contract which would probably happen with a serious injury to Mason or Pavelec). Despite what people may think of his skills, he has NHL experience that is absolutely necessary to be a capable backup.
He can also take on a mentorship role with the Ice Caps which is probably a big factor for signing him. This also gives the Ice Caps fans a competitive team from top to bottom now with veterens at each position.
There was no upside for Mannino, why is Aebicher still not with St. Johns and for that matter why is Stapleton still here after he cleared waivers?
Clearing waivers /= send to AHL. Guess they are still thinking of using him as the 13th forward, maybe waiting on return from injuries of guys like Maxwell and Fehr and the potential contract with Bodie. Also, it is alot easier to slip somebody through waivers now, then in two weeks when the injuries begin to pile out for some teams, so might as well get Stapleton cleared to go down now. I don't know for sure but that is all I can think of.
