Who do you scratch to play Betts?

This is the bottom line.
If he's got 1 year left in the tank + can still win faceoffs, and hustles more than EC, I say ok; but if not, then it's thanks for the memories.

Therefore, would invite him to a workout...

Betts is an offensive black hole. At least EC can win us shootouts.

Again, 13th forward, this is not a regular roster spot we're talking about. I'd rather have Christensen in reserve than Betts

I'm always amazed by the phenomenon on this board to turn on players once they leave the team, discrediting what they've done and disparaging their abilities. Betts was an absolute steal for the NYR. He was acquired for next to nothing, played for peanuts during most of his time here, and ended up doing his job effectively and, at times, wonderfully. Now, he's a stone-handed wash up who doesn't have a chance at cracking our Gold Medal caliber lineup. Look, I don't think he should be claimed off waivers either, but not because he's no longer NHL caliber; it's because center depth is not a concern right now, and available cap space should go towards a D.

Sorry StepanUp, didn't mean to pick on you, I'm just puzzled as to why we turn on the guys who leave the team (many times involuntarily).

ok, mini rant over
It's okay. I have the same feeling for Betts as I had Weise, very easy to appreciate what he does out there but also very easy to replace.

Tom Renney loved Blair Betts. I would be shocked if the Oilers do not claim him.
He blamed evey year playoff loss on the injury to Blair Betts. How could the Oilers not claim him?

I'd like Betts 2 years ago. Not on this team. PK is fine. Someone will grab him

Yup. No need for this anymore. Please use the stickied general NHL thread.
