With Staal going on the IR does his salary come off the Rangers cap hit? If so, does anyone think that it is a possibility to see Redden recalled from Hartford for the time being until Staal is ready to go.
He is still an NHL caliber player and in my opinion he is a viable option considering what is still out there.
Or would there be another option that some people would like to see?
If you ask me I don't believe the Rangers are going to sign another D-Man, vet or anything, for the season if they are only in need of them for a month. It makes sense to me to recall Redden and have him fill in for the time being.
I am not a Redden supporter but I would rather have him and his NHL experience in the game rather than Erixon who has not played a professional game yet. Like Tortorella said, he would enjoy having Erixon take the same path as McDonaugh.
And LOL @ him still being a NHL player. He wasn't even good in the AHL.

No chance. If he gets claimed, we will take half of the cap hit.

I'm pretty sure that the only reason he wasn't invited to camp is because if he got injured and was out a serious amount of time, THEN he would have counted against the rangers cap and the rangers couldn't take that chance.
Either way Redden is just too slow and has digressed too much to of any value to the team regardless.
he put no effort into the AHL. Bring him back to play with the big guys he'll know he's there as a filler and put no effort in. No chance imo
Oh come, on. Give me a break. We know he isn't what he used to be. But to say he put no effort into his stint in the AHL is a bunch of garbage. We've heard only extremely good things about him being down there. Frankly, he was tied for 4th in scoring on the Whale with 42 points and I know everyone gushes about "young" Rangers defensive prospects, but the next closest scorer as a D-man was 17 points. Also finished just 5 points out from scoring top 10 in points as a D-man and he missed 12 games.
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying bring him up here and all of a sudden he's a 40 point guy, but it gets tiring hearing people bash him. He's off the cap. He's not a burden on the team. He's only been a great help to the young players, hasn't made a fuss about it the way many in his shoes could've and was productive down there. I know it's popular to bash anything Redden, but at least people can be honest in the aftermath of this all.
His game has fallen off so horribly it's almost sad. Can you imagine if some idiot team claimed him on re-entry and we had to carry 3.25 mil of dead cap space for the next 3 years! We hate him now, that would be unbearable.
If he were called up without Erixon being sent down again, the Rangers would have to find a way to clear $972,834 in cap room. Technically, they can afford him if only 6 defensemen are on the roster. However, there's no way the team wants Redden over Erixon or DelZotto on this roster.
Doesn't he have to go through re-entry waivers if we want to recall him?
If so, the chances are literally LESS than zero. Why on earth would we risk getting hooked with a permanent 3.25M cap hit for this season and the next 3 just to give Redden a chance to play while Staal is hurt, when we could just sign someone else to do the job risk free (or equal risk to the risk of Redden sucking) or, at worst, make a minor move to acquire someone?
