So the opening night line-up (or something similar);

Cammalleri - Plekanec - Cole
Pacioretty - Gomez - Gionta
Kostitsyn - Desharnais - Darche
Moen - Betts - Weber

Gorges - Campoli
Gill - Subban
Spacek - Diaz

Price

??

Wow..that defense is looking mighty ugly.

Switch Cole with Kostitsyn to make it even worse, and you have a JM approved line-up!

I will admit that the D is a bit underwhelming. Its amazing how much better a group it looks like when Markov is back...
I was really hoping Weber would step up this year and evolve into what Hamrlik was for us. Not great that he's not even cracking our top 6, but I guess he's still got a whole season to change the coaching staff's mind.

It took Hamrlik 10 years to become even remotely competent in his own end.

I think people are forgetting how young Weber is. He's 2 years younger than Diaz and Yemelin, and that means a lot for a defender.

I don't think he's ever going to be a shut down defender, but I'm curious to know how Diaz looked 2 years ago.

I wonder if Markov being out dealt a double blow to Emelin. Markov's presence gives Emelin someone he can communicate with, assuming he can cut it on his off side, and also shifts the team's balance heavily in favor of puck-moving d. Right now Diaz is partly filling Markov's void. If and when Markov returns to the lineup, I wouldn't be surprised and Emelin alternated with Weber and Spacek over time, with Emelin taking over only after Markov's return. Missing Markov, story of the habs fan's life.

The thing is both Diaz and Emelin look really promising. It's a problem today, since even with Markov out only one can crack the lineup if Spacek's in, but if we can hang on to them and develop them, they may be significant assets tomorrow.

We shouldn't be sacrificing the future's of Diaz, Weber and Yemelin for 1 year of Spacek.

If that is the case, you scratch Spacek.

I am sick of losing promising assets for old washed up veteran's.

Sheesh hoped to see Yemelin. Still don't get why we courted this guy for five years then when he came over, signed Campoli.

Go Habs Go!

You're a fan of a team that went through 12 defensemen last year and you seriously 'don't get' why it might be seen to be advantageous to have both Emelin and Campoli under contract?

Our defense looked good against tampa in that last pre season game. We will be even better once Markov comes back.

Just because we courted him for 5 years does not guarantee him a spot in the lineup.

Luke Schenn on the Habs:

"They've been consistent the past few years in making the playoffs," Leafs defenceman Luke Schenn said after practice Wednesday. "They're a perfect example of a team that works hard every night. They get contributions from all four lines. I'd say they're kind of an underdog going into every year and they always seem to find a way to be in the playoffs.

"Not to say that we're modelling our system or our game after the Montreal Canadiens, I wouldn't say that at all, but it just goes to show that if you bring it every night any team can get in."

Anyone know of a good place to watch the game in Toronto (aside from Kilgour's because apparently it's impossible to get in)? I just moved here and barely know my way around downtown, but I figure it out.

Wearing my Habs shirt tomorrow.

I'm not trolling in the least, cause I haven't followed the Habs camp, but where's Markov? Is he expected back soon?
