It's so odd when fans talk about signing or claiming a guy off waivers in this case and you see it happen lol. Needless to say I'm really happy with that pick-up! Always loved Betts - honest shutdown type of guy with above avg faceoff skills. We suddenly have somewhat of a decent 4th line.

Moen - Betts - White/Darche

There's a reason for the quotation marks.

I think one part of it is that none of the young players looking for a 3rd/4th line spot really wowed management during pre-season. But the other part is that Gauthier has spoken about not being happy about having to use picks to replenish the line up mid-season due to injuries these past two years. Me thinks he is trying to address the eventual need for depth as of day 1, so that picks don't have to be spent as readily when (not if) injuries hit during the season.

All of a sudden Montreal's bottom six doesn't look too bad. Betts is a great PKer and even if he only wins 50% of his faceoffs it's still better than anything the Habs have lol.

he did the same thing with the defense. Once Markov returns, we will have a real good defense and some depth

Good move by Gauthier - I've always liked Betts.

Never seen Betts plays, anyone tell me what he's like as a player? From the sounds of it he's a gritty player with a good checking prowess.

That was what has been happening the past few days.
They kept Courturier up over Schenn?

Darche? 12 goals in 65 games. I think I'd put him in the lineup over passive Moen.

Seriously, I was hoping that the Habs would put a bid on him. All Betts are off, we now have a 4th line center with size, good on face-offs and who excels on the PK. Great depth move that didn't cost the Habs anything.

Schenn got injured a few days ago. They also think Schenn needs a few games in the AHL to get warmed up. Schenn will no doubt be on the team within a few weeks. I think they just want to see how Couturier does first. Homer really likes Couturier and really wants him to play this year on the Flyers.

What Sa Cyred said, and that part of the bonuses in Schenn's contract are games played. If he plays 82 games, bonus. So, they send him to the AHL to get game ready and then he can't attain that bonus.

Smart pick-up by the :Habs. Betts will help solidify their fourth line and PK.

Betts was the only guy in the past week that had chance being claimed. Good 4th line center, I'm sure that Habs will like him.
