the term refers to his salary being adjusted should he go to the minors.

He's played the requisite amount of games and is of a certain age where he would need to be placed on waivers to be assigned to the minors.

Left handed defenseman.

This is one of those moves that we'll just have to sit back and see how it goes.

What does this mean for the Paul Mara talks? I didn't follow Mara after he left NY, but I liked him when he was here.

Waivers:

Essentially any player that has three professional seasons since signing his first contract, or who has played 180+ NHL games, must go through waivers before going to the AHL. The waiver system allows all 29 other NHL clubs to pick up that player, with teams lower down in the standings taking precedence over those at the top.

Players are on waivers for two days, and if they go unclaimed, they're off to the minors.

If they go to the minors and then return to the NHL club, players don't have to pass through waivers again unless they've been with the big club for 10+ games or 30+ days.

Missing anything here?

Sounds like the Rangers will assign him to the Whale and then bring him up after the Europe stuff.

In Dallas last season, he impressed coach Marc Crawford:

Hes done exactly what you want him to do. Hes taken advantage of an opportunity and hes performed very well. Thats a great sign from any player, and I definitely think that he has gotten more comfortable playing every game.

With Woywitka, they have 9 active defensemen (10 with Staal, who is on IR).. Holy roster-mismangement Batman!

Staal - Girardi
McDonagh - Sauer
Del Zotto - Erixon
Woywitka

That's how it shakes out IMO once Staal comes back. This pick-up is no big deal, don't know why everyone's got their panties in a bunch. Woywitka is a decent depth defenseman that'll sit in the box more nights than not and has been pointed out before a couple of times - will be off the books after this season and is making just above the league minimum. Seriously, no big deal.

DALLAS -- This season, Marc Crawford guided the Dallas Stars to the most points of any team in NHL history that didn't make the playoffs.

It wasn't enough to keep his job, either.

Crawford was fired Tuesday after just two seasons in charge. Although Dallas' playoff bid went to the final minutes of the regular season, general manager Joe Nieuwendyk seemed to have already decided his club needed another coach to become a contender for the Stanley Cup.

Assuming Bickell is the corresponding roster move, does this spell the end of Erixon once the Euro-trip is over?

McDonagh - Girardi
Del Zotto - Sauer
Woywitka - Eminger
Bell

Or does Bell get sent down and one of Eminger/Woywitka becomes the 7th dman?

To sit in the press box? That's always a smart development approach.

Yeah, Eminger makes things slightly complicated. Could always swing him in a deal or... keep two scratched d-men? Osminator on point with the "mismanagement" post, jeez.

Take it from a Dallas fan, Woywitka is HORRIBLE. Mara or Bell would be better.

This move sucks, hope he never seens NHL time.
