Never has a win in the season opener been so important.
It would take so much pressure from the newly formed core!
A win would be great. However it is only one game out of 82. I think that this group has the potential be be very very good. I just cannot wait for the season to get underway.
I have been watching the Flyers since 1970. I saw the rise and fall of the Bobby
Clarke era. I saw Flocky Hockey. The Dave Poulin years. The Eric Lindros era. The
Mike Richards meltdown. And now this: the start of the Giroux era. I have not been
this excited for an opening night in probably 20 years since the death of Pelle
Lindbergh. I still remember that night when that was announced on the radio as much 9/11 or JFK's death in 1963. [ I was in Mr. Snader's earth science class when Mr Williams,
the principal announced on the intercom that the president was shot. I was sitting in the
5th row, farthest to the right, Susan S. was sitting in front of me sobbing and Mr Snader
in his thin black tie and white sweater said, " we will get through this", we haven't yet]
Though on a much lighter note. Luckily Mr. Bonehead himself Scotty Hartnell is playing
on the 3rd line. So it will at least 3-4 minutes before he takes the first bad penalty
of the game in the offensive zone for goalie interference. At least 5-6 minutes before
Walker or Carle makes a lazy pass and Bergeron intercepts and goes all alone on Bryz
and scores. Don't get me wrong, but for every 3 boneheaded plays Scotty makes he
makes one hall of fame pass or check. And to be fair, if our guys don't backcheck
or take a shift off, then Walker or Carle will ger nervous and jerky and make the bad
play. So guys please back-check; I know it is a lost art, but at least try. OK we
know Jagr isn't but that is ok for everyone else it is not. Can you hear that guys?????
This couldn't have come quickly enough. The first GDT, and of course MSE's work on the GDTs are the best, you're great MSE. Let's Go Flyers, get a win tonight, ruin the party in Boston!
HBO is showing "Broad Street Bullies" on-demand again. Watched it for second time the other night. It's a great doc, and a reminder of what a great rivalry is Bruins-Flyers. There's a reason the Flyers are the opponent on this important night in Bruins history.
Exciting time for Philly sports. Good luck this season - except for tonight.

I have Slayer on the docket for Saturday's music at New Jersey.

When Laviolette refers such questions to Holmgren, it is usually injury related. That apparently was the situation today though there was no mention of injury. We shall see.

I liked Espo's complimentary quote in that feature.
Thursday at 1230 pm - Laviolette directs all questions about Walker to Paul Holmgren.
Thursday at 1245 pm - Holmgren says there is nothing wrong with Walker and that he didn't skate because he "wanted to work on other things."
Thursday at 1pm - I get a text confirming Andreas Lilja will play and Walker won't.
So what happened?
I can't figure honestly. I do not believe he's injured at all. If he were, Holmgren would have offered an obligatory "upper" or "lower" body injury. He didn't do that.
I guess they could be holding him out of everything because of a pending trade. But I'm not sure they want to do that now. Bartulis would have to clear recall waivers to come back... Which is unlikely as teams could get him for half his salary (which would be $300,000) and Erik Gustafsson needs to play in the AHL to improve.
Or maybe, and this is really just speculation and not confirmed by anyone at all, maybe Walker was pulled from the start because of something disciplinary.
Hey, stranger things have happened.
I mean seriously, what other things was Walker working possibly working on if he wasn't skating with the team or even in the building?
I liked Espo's complimentary quote in that feature.
Me too, and what he said was absolutely true. If I have a criticism, that doc emphasized the fighting too much. Flyers of that era were an elite team regardless of the fighting, with world class top talent and very good depth.
Good luck guys, it will be interesting to see how you guys do this year with a new line-up infused with youth and Pronger, haha.
I enjoy the type of hockey the Flyers play and if they can pull it all together, they can be a very scary team. I am excited to see Jagr again, he used to kill the Bruins back in the early 90s with Lemieux and company.
Seems a bit far fetched at first glance. Or maybe it's just me who would just like a fresh new start with a fresh new season, without any crap like this surrounding the team.
I can't imagine it's a trade, at least not one involving Walker. He was just waived and went unclaimed, why would someone trade for him two days later? I'm assuming it's either an injury or he hasn't looked good in practice the past few days and Lilja has. Definitely not reading too much into it.

If it turns out that it in fact is a trade, it could be some team that wants/needs to get rid of a contract as well. They might be at the contract limiit, or don't want to go up to the limit. Or they simply want us to take back some salary.
Howlin For You by Black Keys. It's on NHL 11's soundtrack.
But good luck to the Flyers tonight. It remains to be seen whether they will be improved or not, but I think they'll be more exciting. I like your young players like Simmonds, Couturier, Voracek, Rinaldo and Schenn when he's up.
