On the oiler board we have been discussing options
the two trade offers that popped up from leafs fans were
Komi + 2nd for Gagner
Gunnerson + 2nd for Gagner
both of these got reject
because 1) Komi's contract is too long and too big for what he does 2) While some leaf fans are very high on Gunnerson--from an oiler perspective we do not see him being a top 4 d-man--5/6 d-men are fairly easy to get. Oilers have Barker, Sutton, Smid, Petry, Chorny, Gilbert, with a scub named Potter on the roster till Whitney comes back. The wild card for the oilers is if Barker finds his game--smid is a good 3/4 d-man, Gilbert shows signs of being slightly better then average, Petry has a good upside and is quickly developing, and so that leaves Sutton and Chorny as 5/6(when Whitney comes back). Oilers also have a pile d-guys in the system that are coming along and I don't see Gunnerson being a top 4 d-man and for 5/6 d-man I do not see the oilers giving up a kid like Gagner.
I do not see the oilers being good trading partners as what the Oilers would ask for is something the Leafs would not give up
For the oilers to trade Gagner we would be asking for a guy like either Jake Gardiner and something fo Gagner and leaf fans would reject that idea
If Gagner was really available, the Blackhawks should be the ones interested. Patrick Kane is really good friends with Gagner, and the Hawks could use an other good center so that Sharp can play wing on their top line. Can't imagine Bowman not trying to scoop him up if he's available.
But, as for the Leafs, we should be adding a center only if its someone who can be better than what we have, which does not include Gagner.
For the right price (regarding his contract), I would be extatic if we could add Turris. I would say goodbye to Bozak and Gunnar if need be.
Grabo is better than any of those guys were when Burke moved them. By a long shot. A lot of people would be extremely upset with Burke if he ended up letting Grabo walk, and that's because it would be near idiotic. The guy has started playing the way we hoped he would one day play, and now that he's going to ask for the money he deserves, people don't want to bring him back? I never understood how people would not want to pay their good players money. He'll get less than $5 million, I would imagine, but he's a lower-tier first-line center right now (with the potential to move up the list) who plays a balls-to-the-wall style of hockey that Burke and Wilson love. Him and Kulemin should be Leafs for a long, long time. Pay them their money
I agree. Anyone that thinks Grabo hasn't earned his keep has watched with their eyes closed. If Grabo plays like he did last year he would have earned a raise and I would have no problem with him anchoring our second line for years.
I rather go cheap on Turris and see if we can develop him.
I disagree. Considering the fact that Bozak has never even cracked the 35 point mark in the NHL his entire career and Gagner puts up at least 40 points every year he plays, I don't see your logic here...
My logic is that Bozak has one full season under his belt. Gagner has four, not to mention more massive holes all throughout his game.
We can agree to disagree. I'm not even a fan of Bozak, but he's a superior overall player to Gagne.
