Inexplicable. Simply inexplicable. First 20 minutes were great. Lots of crisp, tape-to-tape passing, solid D, and some genuine scoring chances. Leafs were playing like junk, sure, but the Habs earned that large play & shot advantage.
Then it's like Martin told them the Leafs have kooties during the intermission. OMG, run around, run around, don't touch that puck, it's got Leaf kooties too! Absolutely pathetic final 40 minutes. They stopped skating, stopped passing, and scoring chances? Ha! Reimer didn't even break a sweat those last 40 (how the hell did we get 13 shots in the 3rd period? I suppose all those useless 40-footers count, don't they). I look up and down that list of 11 forwards who suited up and can't find one that earned their keep in the last 40 (I might exempt Engqvist due to lack of ice time).
And Martin, Erik Cole was brought in to be a top-6 forward. You don't ****ing condemn him to the third line most of the night with the likes of Desharnais (who played almost 18 minutes why?!) and Darche!
Good old Jekyll & Hyde Habs.
I dearly hope this is some early season rust plus still missing Markov & Eller. If that was a preview of what we can expect in 2011/2012 it's gonna be a loooooong year.
The team really needs to stop playing our ****** prospects right up until the end of pre-season and give the team more than 0 games to actually play as a whole. This game being the first time is stupid.
Also, being dominated in the faceoff circle isn't going to change much with Betts and 50.3 unless he somehow does better than what he normally does.
We should have made our cuts after the 4 games in a row stretch and had our opening day lineup playing the last 2 pre season games.
I want the 3 hours of my life back for watching his horrible effort.
I know Cole wasn't used enough but on the other hand his effort was quite poor....and he certainly didn't look fast to me. I would even say he looked like our slowest forward which is obviously NOT normal.
What a disaster this experiment was. We had decent changes off the first powerplay but it was a downward slope from there. Plekanec was useless on the point and made worse by Subban's incessant pinching and/or getting out of position. DD generalized limited chances upfront and looked entirely out of his element. Outside the abysmal powerplay, Subban was awful, Gionta was practically invisible, along with Cammalleri.
Do I have need to mention Gomez? Sigh, he had a mildly decent start but fizzled out almost immediately. Just all around terrible, with the exception of Price.
How many times have we seen this Habs team come out great but can't score and then the opposing team scores first and the Habs just give up the rest of the game? Such a frustrating team to watch our Habs are..
How long until Mike Brophy writes an article about Reimer being a front runner for the Vezina?
Nothing against Leafs fans at this point, they won, they're allowed to be excited, but the open nets we missed in the first, and then the no show in the final 40 minutes handed the victory to them. Hopefully next time they play the Leafs, Montreal actually shows up.
This team has taken on the personality of their head coach.
Diaz is not NHL caliber. Pleks and Cammy are soft. Please find a centreman who can win some faceoffs. We really need an injection of sandpaper, size, and creativity.
Hopefully Eller, White, Markov and others bring this, becasue tonight's version of the Habs looked bush league.
And BTW, Gomez haters shutup. He was the best forward out there tonight.
Cammy was crashing the net a'right... didnt shy away from scrums...
