Doesn't make sense that he'd bench Lee, he was markedly better than Rundblad in the pre-season.

Please tell me this is a joke. I mean, this is the third pre-season in a row that Lee has been one of the 6 best defensemen on the Senators coming out of camp. What else does he have to do?

Esp. when Kuba over here is turning over the puck 3 times a game directly to the opponent for a scoring chance.

I guess this should have been predictable.

There are clearly some other motives taking priority.

Rundblad showed by the end of pre-season he may be ready to play everyday, so they need to find out soon if that is true, so they can decide whether they can trade Lee if that opportunity arises. Kuba needs to play because there's a 2% chance he develops value if he plays, but a 0% chance he develops value if he sits.

Paul MacLean (and Bryan Murray) haven't sat Brian Lee because he's the worst Dman available to them....they've sat him because their hands are tied and they need some questions answered.

I usually agree with you, but I'd say that MacLean has one priority: win. And if I was him, I'd have Lee in the lineup over Rundblad, but he would know best so there must be a reason.

It also could be good for both Rundblad and Zibby(among others) to experience this first game against a lot of their idols growing up. I could see that as another reason why MacLean is probably sitting Lee over Rundblad.

I expect Rundblad to be a deer in the headlights tomorrow though when he's up against Lidstrom, Zetterberg, Franzen, Datsyuk et all. Should be a great learning experience for him, regardless of whether or not they light him up.

I just can't think the guy is dumb enough to think that, to win this game, his best odds are to go with Rundblad and sit Lee. Rundblad offers more upside to make a deciding play......but overall it's just plain obvious Lee is one of the better options available to him overall.

As much as they all say winning now is paramount and all that, they have to say that, I'm not so sure it's actually true. They'll be trying to win, but the longterm comes first and there's some questions they've gotta answer.

All I'm trying to say is I don't even see it as possible that MacLean actually thinks Lee should be the odd one out, if all things are equal. Therefore, there's gotta be something getting in the way of him playing. The majority of fans can be misled but those that pay attention every day can see Lee should be playing on merit.

I just...
I mean..

Like...

how many coaches need to bench/scratch lee before people trust their decisions?

The Brian Lee I saw against the Bruins was enough for me. When the pace and intensity picked up, he faded. Rundblad excelled.

Is he seriously going to be the Corey Locke of defenseman?
"he just needs a chance!"
He is what he is, and there's nothing wrong with being a career 4-6 defenseman.

Can't wait for the season to start so a minor possible roster moves are not huge topics of discussion.

Give Rundblad the chance, his potential is sky high. Brian Lee is an average defenceman on a bad defensive group. A couple games in the pressbox won't hurt him at all.

The thing is, there are defenceman who deserve to sit a lot more then Lee.

No one cares that Rundblad is playing instead of Lee.

Everyone cares that Kuba is though because he sucks.

Like I said, there's a slim chance Kuba develops value if he plays, but there is 0% he does if he doesn't play.

Does anyone remember when Lee was put on waivers last season and cleared waivers without a look from another team?

The hf trend seems to be a lot of love for Lee. The guy can be a decent bottom pairing defenseman, but obviously the club is more excited about some of the younger talent coming up through the system.

He'll get his games in. Unless the team goes through the entire season without injuries on the blueline.

Likely scenario Kuba gets embarassed a few times by the Wings and sits on Saturday.

I figured Rundblad would get the start opening night. They're going to give him every chance to be an NHL player ASAP.

The thing I cant get over is the list of players taken after lee who have made a name for themselves in the NHL

Lee-9th overall
Kopitar-11th overall
M. Staal-12th overall
Hanzal-17th overall
Rask-21st overall
Bergfors-23rd overall
Oshie-24th overall
Downie-29th overall

and these are just the first round picks picked after him is doesnt include the later rounds with: James Neal, M E Vlasic, Pavelec, Statsny, Lattendresse, Raymond, Letang, Yandle and a few others

Every team has years like that. Hell, in 03 Jessiman, Nilsson, Steve Bernier were all chosen before Parise, Getzlaf, Burns, Kesler, Richards, Perry (all 1st rounders). That's not even mentioning half the scrubs picked before the likes of Eriksson, Bergeron, Weber, Backes, Pavelski, Enstrom, Byfuglien, and Halak.

Why sit one of the two best defencemen out of training camp??? Cowen and Lee both deserve to start the year, not to do that sends an awful message and has the potential to do more harm than good.

If the supposition about Kuba or Rundblad is close to right, then the Sens should be looking at sitting one of Phillips, Gonchar or Karlsson.
