For the third time in four seasons, the Predators begin their 2011-12 season away from Bridgestone Arena, taking on the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight at Nationwide Arena. It marks the first time in franchise history the two Central Division foes have faced off on opening night.

A season ago, Nashville compiled a record of 4-2-0 against the Blue Jackets. In the final regular season game at Bridgestone Arena, the Predators jumped out early with Patric Hornqvist continuing his assault on the Blue Jackets. Hornqvist notched three points (2g-1a) on the night; giving him five points (3g-2a) in the season series. Matt Halischuk potted his first career game-winning goal just two minutes into the second-period and Sergei Kostitsyn added a third-period marker as the Predators took home the 4-1 victory. On Feb. 27, Nashville extended the longest active home winning streak (17) in the National Hockey League with a 3-2 come from behind win. Nashville’s last appearance at Nationwide Arena (Feb. 22) was a hard-fought battle through 40 minutes of shutout hockey, with Columbus ultimately scoring four goals in the final frame to claim the a 4-0 win. On Jan. 2, Nashville trailed after 20 minutes, but tallied three second-period goals and added another in the third to win 4-1. Captain Shea Weber’s posted his sixth career three-point effort (1g-2a), while Hornqvist (1g-1a) and Colin Wilson (2a) also recorded multi-point games. Nashville’s other win came 4-3 in a shootout on Dec. 1 at Bridgestone Arena, as Steve Sullivan scored the shootout winner. In the first meeting of 2010-11, Columbus took home a 2-0 win.

Since 2006-07, Nashville is 10-5-2 within the confines of Nationwide Arena, and 17-11-3 all-time. Seven of the last 11 meetings between the clubs have needed overtime/a shootout to determine a winner and since Dec. 27, 2007, the home team has won 19-of-23 games.

For our ATL fans I got bored and make some avatarish things to help you learn the 303's chants.

After Paul announces who scored against the opposing team

When introducing the opposing team.

When an opposing player slips on the ice.

I'll make some more when I get better photos. And if the 303 guys don't kill me for using their icon. But as the famous clown saying goes, 'It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission.'

BFC, it isn't theft so much as it's proper citation

I woke up this morning fully prepared to turn around and fall back to sleep. After all, I have very little to do today. Then, I remembered that tonight marks the beginning of the very thing which keeps me feeling alive during the winter. Tonight marks the beginning of another 6+ months of the greatest sport to ever grace this planet. Tonight, my world is simplified. It's Predators' hockey and then everything else.

Kick some ass, boys. Just. Freakin'. Win.

wild fan/nsh fantasy owner here - come in peace.

what do you fans expect of suter/weber/n blum this year?

i know suter and weber it's safe to say they'll continue to be one of the best pairs in the league, both having a shot at norris, but what are the teams real expectations of blum? i went with a shot in the dark by drafting him late in my draft cause of the things id been hearing about in in the offseason. think i hit a decent pick?

You won't be disappointed. Blum is a beast for us. Easily our 3rd best D (no shame in that when Weber and Suter are your 1 and 2), and he'll only improve

Don't know much about fantasy hockey, so I guess it really just depends on what gets you points. If it's strictly based on points scored by the player I think you will be at least satisfied, if not thrilled, to have picked up Blum. With Franson's departure I think Blum will see some more PP time, but then again with SOB's departure he may be tossed on the penalty kill. Either way, he showed that he can handle the NHL in his short stint last season. He looked good in camp and in preseason. He will play about four times as many games this year as he did last (assuming he stays healthy). If his point production stays the same as it was last year he is looking at close to 30 points. I think it will go up a bit.

So excited, we could use a division win right away. Upset Ekholm is scratched though
