I read the article in todays toronto sun........
That's just Laviolette's subtle dig at Homer though. "Look, what am I to do? Who should I put out there, Brière? Jagr? Voracek? I'm left with an 18 yo as my best defensive forward. Thank you so much a-hole."

Inconsistency. I has it.

Not based on his first game. He has the ability and instincts to win it at some point in his career. He was the best two way forward in this year's draft. Obviously he won't win it as an 18 year old rookie, but I think he could be a candidate in his prime. It says a lot when the coach already thinks of him as their best defensive forward.

I find it laughable that we went from doom and gloom to having a future selke candidate and everything is rosy. I don't think one game can be stressed enough.

Well I don't think everyone rosy with the team, but I do think Couturier has great defensive ability.

I like how quickly people dismiss Couturier. The guy is a very talented player with an unnatural hockey sense that most players don't have. Jordan Staal was very similar his first year. I say let the Flyers run with an 18 year old as their third line center. The guy continues to show he belongs and yet as typical Flyer fans, people are wanting him to fail so they can say "I was right."

I'm not writing him off at all. He looks to be a very good talent. I can't wait to have Giroux, Schenn and Cooter playing in their primes here. It just makes me laugh at how, ( after one game no-less) that the people who had absolutly no faith in the choices we made in the offseason are suddenly the ones preaching from the heavens.

It's one game. After they have a bad game the majority of posters and the fan base will change their opinions.

Dude is 18. Anybody that jumps on him when he hits a bit of a wall are idiots. Doesnt mean that people projecting him to be a very good player in the long run are unreasonable though

Me too, alas, methinks the suspects are on hiatus.... and if the team keeps winning, we may never see them again!

I understand where you are coming from. But do not worry they are just hiding in the bushes and just waiting for something bad to happen so they can jump on the hate and doom amd gloom wagon. That being said. I like what the kid had to say about his 1st game. After his 1st shift he settled in and the speed of the game had no effect on him. Even in junior he had some kind of outrages +/- numbers. The future looks a lot brighter than say right before the draft.

Fixed it . Its not just here. No worries. There isnt much else to do in the offseason. Well we could praise everything that happens, but that would be artificial and boring.

I would like to know who he is referring to as well. Although I am the opposite of you. I was someone who was unhappy with the moves in the offseason and did not think they would be a contender...and I still don't. One game hasn't changed my opinion on anything. Small sample and all. As for Couturier, I was high on him long before the Flyers ever held the 8th pick and believe he has a bright future. Has nothing to do with one game. Of course my expectations for him this season is modest. Funny that one of Holmgren's apologists is trying to call out anybody.

How can they send him down now? I mean sure if he struggles in the next few games leading up to the "9 game mark" then sure, but if he continues to play like he did in game 1 and they send him down would that not look terrible on laviolette who proclaimed him to be our best defensive player, and was playing him in important game saving positions?

lets just send our best defensive forward back to junior we dont need him.

I've been impressed. I could see him going the same pad as Ryan O'Reilly did in his rookie season in Colorado. Not great offensivly but a wall in the own end..

Looking forward to see more from him..
