NHL fines Zucc

"NHL fines NYR Zuccarello $2,500 for his "push" from behind." per Bpb Mckenzie

Wish they'd fine the refs for that call on MCD.

What is happening to this game...?

Does intent count for anything? Shannys legacy is going to be tainted by this nonsense. The next generation is going to grow up thinking Shanny must have been the biggest Vag of a player when the truth is he delivered wickedness that far exceeds many of these infractions

Seems weird to me (and not just because he's a Rangers player). If the hit was dirty, suspend him. If it wasn't, then the penalty served on the ice should be sufficent.

Fining him seems to a wiahy-washy way of trying do something without actually doing anything. Really hope that $$ goes to a useful cause

Wasn't is Shanny who said ' a hook and a slash are both 2 minutes in the box so you might as well make the guy feel pain'

Comparing Shanny the player to Shanny the administrator is not a fair way to go about it. He's obviously looking at things from a different slant now.

If they are going to go down this road, I'd like to see a points system introduced ie. it takes 180 pts to get suspended for a game Zucc's hit totals up to 100 points, so he's closer to a suspension if he does something similiar again. Fines should not come into it.

I think you are telling the wrong guy, you might want to make that plea to Shanny instead of JC

For what it's worth, I agree, shouldn't have been a fine or suspension....

Without looking at the replay, the guy was about 5-7 feet away from the boards.

He got 'shoved' by one of the smallest players in the league.

He got penalized.

This wasn't a head shot. This wasn't intent to injure. It wasn't vicious.

Come on.

This is a contact sport.

Fixed it for you.

Hopefully there will still be plays that will be 2 minutes and only 2 minutes.

I understand why he was fined. It's better than being suspended, anyway.

Clifford could've seperated his shoulder or break his arm because of that small shove.

I believe they're trying to set a standard in the league to prevent injury, obviously, and tell players, no matter who they are and how big they are, they need to show some ease when a player has his back turned facing the boards.

So, Zuccarello making a strong play is bad...

But flopping to the ice like you got shot is OK?

Being a punk, an actor, a cheap shot slew footer is OK.

But body checking someone while playing hard for the puck isn't acceptable?

Refs handing out power plays late in tie games on phantom calls, that decide the game is acceptable?

Not holding the 'star' players accountable is acceptable?

I truly despise some of the mentality in the NHL in this era.

They took the hooking, and holding, and fighting for the puck out of the game. They outlawed guys defending themselves with their fists.

And this is what you get, players who don't give a crap about their fellow player, because there is no consequence ON THE ICE.

Also, they complain about injuries, and they can't bring themselves to mandate visors, mouthguards, throat guards, wrist guards, and arguably the top helmet in concussion prevention Cascade M11.

They eliminated goaltenders from playing the puck, so now guys crash the corners harder. They eliminated the red line and shrank the neutral zone so you don't need to earn your way through the neutral zone as much anymore.

They shrank the playing area behind the goal line, so there's less room for battles there.

And worst sin IMO yet, they shrank the goal crease, so goaltenders have less protection. They're basically free to trample. You used to be penalized for being in the crease. You couldn't be in it before the puck, otherwise goals wouldn't count.

The rule changes weren't for us hockey fans, they were for people who WEREN'T hockey fans. To increase goal scoring thinking that would attract fans.

Hockey isn't supposed to be easy.

Goals aren't supposed to come easy.

Getting scoring opportunities isn't supposed to be easy.

sauer took a similar shot to this in the preseason and everybody on here was calling for the player who hit him to get a suspension. the difference was the hit on sauer was clean.

mza's hit was a crosscheck into the boards. while i hate the way shanahan is treating "player safety" this year, this is exactly the type of play that they're trying to get rid of.

I've loved Shanny suspending guys who deserve it. But this is ****ing ridiculous. The guy went down like Zdeno ****ing Chara pushed him down with all his might. Come on Shanny.

That's fine.

But the main argument is that, they screwed the game up in a way they can't figure out how to fix.

So they're just suspending players for everything/anything.

Is Mitchell being fined for the half gainers he took resulting in 2 penalties? If not, this entire process is BS.

Eliminate head shots, eliminate hits from behind.

But be fair and logical then, eliminate ALL contact with goaltenders. That's a huge gripe I have. They're completely defenseless as it is. And give them their full crease again.

And mandate visors, mouth guards(which will help with concussions and facial/eye injuries), throat guards(protect jugular from skates), and wrist guards(broken wrists/slashed arteries).
