Don't be surprised if Thome's the first baseman next year.

Thome can't play the field.

Madson needs to be paid, if he is to return.

That $40M disappears real fast.
Pence also gets a raise.

He's not playing short. Obviously he won't play 160 games but he can still give you some games while Mayberry plays against tough lefties. There's no shot they go into next season with just Mayberry. And Rizzotti is not an everyday big leaguer so I can't see him being the answer as well as Overbeck.

Then they go and get someone else. Thome will not be a starter in the National League.

If Jimmy is gone, I'm going to miss him.

He's one of the greatest athletes in the history of the city... the dreary 18,000-headcount Vet games seem like a million years ago. I'm so thankful for what he did.

I was half joking half serious, aside from Pujols and Fielder, no one on the market is coming close to Howard's production. You're looking at names like Cantu and Pena. One guy I would like them to look at is Edwin Encarnacion. Guy is a butcher at third but he can play first. This guy has pop and I think he would do well at CBP. Not sure if they want another Righty/Righty first baseman in addition to Mayberry though.

EDIT: Overbeck is playing in the Arizona Fall League. That's something to keep an eye on. Again a righty/righty first baseman (former third baseman).

I'm just saying, if we cannot get anyone better than Jimmy (for the money) I think we should go after him again.

Two way shortstop's are hard enough to find, let alone in the free agent market. Of the shorstop's available none are better than Jimmy which means if he's unwilling to give a home town discount (to US not SF) he's going to get a very enticing offer. Scutaro has an option I believe and then you're looking at Alex Gonzalez (yikes). Not that I'm really high on Galvis, but he still needs another year or two of seasoning. If they don't sign Jimmy and assuming Howard's out this team is going to be shaky. There's always a trade possibility I guess.

I'd take Jose Reyes over Jimmy.

EDIT: I'll include a smiley.

I don't mean to be smart but who do you want? I know Jimmy's frustrating at times, but he's still one of the best fielding SS's in the league and did steal 30 bags. Is he the prototypical leadoff hitter? Absolutely not, but I can't really say any of the free agents bring to the table what he brings.

Oh no question. Reyes would ignite this lineup. I didn't even include him because I just can't see any way they can afford him.

Since we can't have Reyes, we should still try for Rollins.

Rollins actually did well during the playoffs, one of our better hitters, along with Utley.

Because as you said, he is frustrating to watch, he isnt going to be the type of hitter they need. They need someone that hits line drives, not pops up. It's just his attitude I have had enough of. Him calling out the fans for not being loud. Plus they need to get younger. Its been a great 10 years.

If Rollins won't budge on his five years demand, see ya. If he does i'd take him back.

The problem about baseball is, it's really hard to be young and really good compared to hockey. At times, young players can cost you WAY more than older, proven players, especially more in baseball than hockey. I'd say 30 years old in baseball is like a 25 or 26 year old in hockey. Been around for a while, but not old.

Its refreshing to watch a mlb game in which both team take pitches and work the count, what a lost art in the city of Philadelphia.
