2012 Shootout Situation

I have a great understanding of this years roster and a good understanding of NHL rules. However, as we head into the 2012 season opener this weekend, I am still unclear on the whole shooutout situation which leaves me with a few questions that have been driving me crazy. Will someone please save me on this one.

1 - With all of the offseason additions and subtractions, I am left scratching my head. What will the Sharks shooutout look like this year?

2 - I assume the Sharks starting roster has to be handed into officials before the game. Is this correct?

3 - How many players have to be included in the shooutout lineup? Is it 3, or is it 5?

4 - I know coaches can change lines on the fly, but can they change the shootout lineup on the fly if someone has a good/bad game after OT?

Thanks in advance for schooling me on the shootout guys. Go Sharks!

Pretty sure you hand in your shootout lineup after OT.

1. Pavs, Boyle, Patty and Clowe were all regulars on the shootout. Couture, Havlat, Jumbo and I'm sure Burns can too. Might as well add in McGuinn and Wingles... We're fine.

2. Starting roster yes, shoot-out no. If there is a shootout, they make it on the fly and hand it in, so people's performance in the game can factor in.

3. Three

4. Once they hand it in, can't change, but as I said, they make it before the shootout starts.

Go sharks!

I think we should just send Murray out first and have him charge at the goalie screaming in swedish.

Three man shoot-out. Coaches send it right before the shootout starts. I think they should go with

1. Pavelski
2. Boyle
3. Clowe

then use players like Couture, Handzus, Marleau, and Burns.

clowe-havlat-patty would be a good starting 3. sub couture, burns, boyle, pavs in if needed

I don't like Marleau in shootouts. He has too much time to think and it gets in his way IMO. Isn't his percentage not very good?

Yeah it isn't. He's absolutely clutch on breakways, but sucks at the shoot-out

So the solution is, pencil Patty in, and don't tell him until the ref blows the whistle.

Even that gives him too much time to think.

Wave a milk bone in front of his face and then pretend to throw it down the ice.

Recently Clowe has led the pack. I am not comfortable on Boyle and would have him on a short leash. After Clowe, I would go with Pavs, Couture and Havlat. Have Handzus and Boyle for backup, then Marleau. They should not use the same 3 every time, there is too much video for the goalies floating around. Unless the guy has at least 2 shootout moves, he needs to sit occasionally.

in the teal and white game shootout patty just skated in fast like he was in a real game breakaway and scored. he should do that more often haha

I agree in theory... but those two statements defy each other.

Clowe has converted on at least 3 different moves. His primary is the deke/backhand, but he has used others successfully. The guys with single moves are Pavs, Couture and JT. If the goalies watch film on Couture, he will get shutdown quick. His move is deke/backhand and he always goes five hole never trying to put it over glove or blocker. Pavs has to add a deke to his wrister. JT is always deke/backhand (over glove or blocker).

I think they are all pretty predictable to be honest. Pavs wont be fooling everyone with his lazer wrister and Clowe pretty much always goes backhand high. I think I like Boyle, Couture, Marleau.
