What, you didn't appreciate the weird, tough-talking rant about Filatov needing to shape up or he'll wind up in the AHL? ... I mean, it's the second game of the season. If you can't threaten 21 year olds with banishment, who can you threaten?
Apparently we traded a 4th rounder for him too....

Heh, just picked up my "Karlsson" heritage jersey today.

Glad he made it worthwhile in the 3rd.

The lack of knowledge on some "professional" commentators is pretty sad. Like do these guys even prepare before a game? The inability to talk accurately about another team or pronounce their players names is just silly.

No I'm not. You've already written the Leafs off because of one bad period, despite the fact they still got the two points.

That Leafs' Homepage picture is kind of ironic looking back at the game, eh?

The Senator is on the ice waving a flag of surrender after the Leafs have presumably beaten the living snot out of them.

And yet, in reality, we didn't surrender and almost came back to win.

...

Edit: I love how vindictive the Habs board is. They were just lapping up the Leafs blowing their lead, and their hatred of Reimer/the Leafs puts us to shame.

And I give you guys credit for that. Toronto did man handle Ottawa for the majority of the game. The 5 on 3, mid-way through the 3rd period really took the momentum on Ottawa's side.

Great comeback, but Kessel was on a mission tonight, just like he usually is against the Senators.

It was a nice try for the comeback. I did not like the effort level from Gonchar at all. I also wish that Filatov played a little better tonight, a few bad passes and he did not leave the bench.

Exactly. You should have seen this place after the 2nd period. There were "fail for nail" comments and calling the Sens a "semi-pro" team and there was no hope for the season and the Leafs D was "a million times better". Now they play well for 1 period and they have a bright future and the Leafs will miss the playoffs. Funny people these Sens fans.

Y'know what, I'm seeing teams get blown out and they are certainly not in a rebuild. It really is very encouraging seeing the Sens come back in the third in such exciting fashion when you see other supposedly good teams losing 5 or 4 to 1. We just have to settle our defense a bit.

Quick thoughts after 2 games…

Good

Da Costa (looking electric offensively)
Michalek (playing very well around the net)
Spezza (started both games slowly, switched into beast mode for the 3rd)
Alfredsson (the same old Alfie)
Zibanejad (doesn’t look out of place whatsoever)
Neil (doing his job and doing it well)
Karlsson (despite some shoddy defensive play)

Average

Foligno (poor +/-, but I feel like he’s been ok)
Smith (looking like a leader on the PK)
Condra (like Smith, contributing on the PK)
Greening (timely goal, looking good in limited minutes)
Konopka (like a poor man’s Neil – we know what we’re going to get from him)
Lee (can’t place a lot of blame on him, seems like he’s compensating for his partner on a lot of goals)
Cowen (solid for the most part, some rookie mistakes – to be expected)
Kuba (at this point, miles ahead of last year)

Below Average

Filatov (just doesn’t seem very confident with the puck)
Butler (will hopefully get back in the lineup soon and get a chance to turn it around)
Anderson/Auld (neither looked fantastic, but the team D has been abysmal)

Poor

Phillips (looked better tonight, still shaky)
Gonchar (does he even care?)

Basically, if the team D improves and our top offensive players stay healthy, I think we’ll surprise a lot of teams in the later parts of this year.

You've been on this site for like, 2 months, don't act all high and mighty.

The majority of what I've seen from sens fans tonight:

Period 1,2: upset at veterans, losing to the leafs.

Period 3: happy with comeback/heart shown.

I'm twelve because I didn't get your lame star wars reference, but you're a mature adult because you came to the sens board and started crying about your amazing 2 periods?

When visiting other teams boards, here's a good example of what to say:

I just wanted to say wow. The Sens showed a lot of heart tonight, and they never quit on the puck. There are some great young guys who will learn the ropes and only get better. You guys are gonna be a force in a few years.

That game was exciting to watch at the end. No one could have predicted such a close game, after is was 5-1.

Cheers guys.

Cheers buddy.

If the Leafs can learn to play that puck pressure style for 60 minutes, they could be into the playoffs.

Our guys didn't have the time and space to do anything until the 3rd.

The book is out on us.

Both Detroit and Toronto put a lot of pressure on our D to force them to make bad decisions.

The culprit is MacLean - his puck possession style requires retaining possession getting out of the zone, leading to those passes up the centre or missed passes to guys on the side boards that are picked off.

It'll take 'em awhile to get used to it.

Still better than Hartsburg style hockey where we just dumped it out every time and basically changed lines, only to dump it out again and change lines etc.

Seriously though, the praise is appreciated. As you can see we're all pretty excited about it, albeit a little impatient.

I didn't start crying and I wasn't bragging about the first two periods. I was simply pointing out that Detroit, a Stanley Cup caliber team, also had a bad 3rd period. I then get attacked by Sens fans. Who's the mature one now?

Cheers!

I was surprisingly impressed with Steckel, when you traded for him I laughed a bit, but damn he was good tonight.

Good luck this year, looking forward to seeing Sens vs Leafs in the playoffs sometime in the future!

Would you like me to come to the leafs board and call random posters a 12 year old?
