Right, well, an assumption none the less.

I thought there was a rule in place, saying you can't waive an injured player? I may very well be wrong on that.

What if he retires, and there's suddenly a job available/new position created somewhere within the organization? Or would that be too much of cap circumvention? Didn't we do something similar to that with Hatcher though?

Oh, and have we had any of this verified by someone yet? Either from the Canadiens, or the Flyers?

I'm not real sure if there will be any penalty here. The CBA says if the commissioner determines a player is physically unfit to play at the time of being waived, he is returned to the team. It doesn't talk about fines or draft picks or anything. I'm guessing they'll make some kind of move to get under the contract limit or something.

Hey, at least this gives us some hope that Shelley will be waived.

I'm sure someone will pick him up...

I hope.

RT @NHLFlyers: #Flyers Blair Betts is back with the team after an NHL ruling. Click Here for full details: (http://flyers.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=64095)

Judging by the statement, no penalty should be forthcoming: "While it is clear that both clubs have acted in good faith in this unique situation (i.e. a waiver claim), I am not prepared to dispute the conclusion of the Montreal Club doctors that Mr. Betts was physically unfit to play at the time of the claim. Therefore, it is my decision that, per League By-Laws, the appropriate resolution to this matter is to restore the parties to the position they were in prior to the waiver claim on Oct. 5."

Did that with Riley Cote. Can't remember if the organization was against the contract limit or over/at the salary cap back then. But it was done to give some breathing room with the cap atleast.

He centered the 4th line in practice the day that the Flyers waived him too. Holmgren told him after practice. Maybe he flung himself down the escalator at MTL's airport upon arrival.

What would the kickback be of buying out Shelley's contract? Can it be done while he's suspended?

I think lavy understands this team is better when betts is not on the ice for us... I hope anyway, he is like shelley he doesnt just ruin a roster spot he ruins an entire line.

I will be happy when homer gets rid of betts and shelley both are dead weight.

Homer has no say in who is in the line-up. That's Lavy's decision

I guess. I mean--why not waive Shelley and keep Betts as the extra forward? Lower cap hit and a more productive player.

(I know, it will never happen.)

OK so according to Capgeek we are at 52 contracts, with 2 players (Couturier and Nobles) that can slide and don't truly count against the contract limit right now. So we still have 7 games before we need to make any moves.
