3-0 Wings. Admittedly its one game but Varly looks like the best player on their team. So yeah, that may not be good.

Varly being good kind of scares me. I mean we know he's a good goalie but I really want one of those Russians.

From earlier in the night, FLA over NYI, 2-0 in the battle of the bottom dwellers. Flash with a goal and Theo with the shut out.

Varly usually plays good for several games, gets tired, and starts having off games. Either that, or he gets injured. Anyway, it's nice to see Colorado get shut out by Conklin of all people.

What the hell happened? I turned away from the Pens game to watch San Jose-Phoenix for but 10 minutes and it goes from 2-1 to 4-1.

Varly looked really good but the rest of the team did not. If he has to be as acrobatic as he was tonight it's only a matter of time until he hurts himself again.

Not Surprising Part: Matt Cooke involved in head shot

Surprising Part: Matt Cooke on receiving end.

According to Yahoo, Flash had an assist, but no goal.

The Avs got shut out in their home opener by Ty Conklin and a so-so defensive team on a back-to-back.

I'm not really worried about Varly being good for X amount of games. That team stinks. They're not Edmonton or Ottawa bad, but top 5 remains highly possible.

If/when varly goes down I would start dreaming Yakupov dreams. Av's looked horrible on their own opening night after retiring forsbergs number. Last two periods were played in the Av's zone.

It was to the chest. FSN Pitt sold a head shot.

So how did Malkin only get 2 minutes for roughing on that second go around? Skated over to the Flame player after the whistle punch/shove to the face with gloves, a slash and no tie down? How in the hell? Not to mention the refs jumped in asap.

That won't be the third line all season though. After 9 games I think DSP will get sent down and the third line will be McMillan-Cogliano-Gordon. I really hope Gordo sticks, big fan of his game and effort.

Salary cap isn't the problem (they can LTIR Betts or waive Walker easily). The problem is that they're now over the contrat limit. Which will likely force them to send Couturier back to the CHL.

I'm curious how many people knew that rule existed before last night?

no tie down? i think most of us knew that. didnt semin get tossed for no tie down in this bongo bash on staal? players that dont fight often dont tie down. its only a violation if you fight like that.

They could just deal a pair of AHL no names and a 6th rounder for one AHL no name.
