Yeah that hit is almost off of the books so the Drury mistake is almost over

Yes,and therefore they have to pay the rest of the team,at a rate that avoids problems like that, should`nt they?

What are the statistics anyway, are the the teams with the tight caps hwo make thoose deepest runs during PO?

Somebody are overpayd I guess
If Zucc makes the team, one of the other forwards will not be there. If that's Christensen, Avery or someone else the team decides to send to the A, it's not going to be a problem. The team won't carry 14 forwards, or if they do, they won't carry 7 defensemen.

$2 will go to Prust.
$2 to Zuccarello.
$2 to two rookies who'll make the team 12 months from now.

That's only $6. If the cap stays the same, then we'll have $14 left. If it goes up, it's even more than that.

Either way, that's enough to sign not just one, but two star players.

I really hope we get Parise, and if not, maybe Penner+Semin. The Rangers have enough cap space, and doing this would make the team an immediate Cup contender, maybe even a Cup favorite, depending on how our youth improves in the next 12 months.
Here is a list of what current roster players are signed for next year:

2012-2013 NYR
FORWARDS
Brandon Dubinsky ($4.200m) / Brad Richards ($6.666m) / Marian Gaborik ($7.500m)
Michael Rupp ($1.500m) / Artem Anisimov ($1.875m) / Ryan Callahan ($4.275m)
/ Derek Stepan ($0.875m) /
/ Brian Boyle ($1.700m)

DEFENSEMEN
Marc Staal ($3.975m) / Daniel Girardi ($3.325m)
Ryan McDonagh ($1.300m) / Mike Sauer ($1.250m)
Tim Erixon ($1.750m)

GOALTENDERS
Henrik Lundqvist ($6.875m)

BUYOUTS: Chris Drury ($1.667m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $48,733,334; BONUSES: $1,275,000
CAP SPACE (14-man roster): $15,566,666

We then need to add 4 wingers, two spare FWDs, 2 D and a backup goalie. For a 23 man roster.

Lets assume the backup goalie costs 1 M
That leaves us with 14,566,666 to sign 8 players

On D - We will probably resign one of Del Zotto or Valentenko, pending this years outcome.
This will likely cost us around 1,8 M. Could be a little less...
Lets say we add another VET or internal D (Kundratek, Parlett) for around 1 M as 7th D.
That leaves us with around 11,766,666 for signing our 6 remaining fwds.
  • Lets say that we sign Kreider to around 1,3 M caphit.
  • One of Zuccarello, Avery, Fedotenko (or lower end UFA option) is resigned at 2 M
  • Prust is resigned at 2 M
  • One of our prospects in Thomas/Hagelin/Miller (or someone else) takes the step up. Cost around 1 M ( a bit more with Miller)
  • One of our better Hartford players (Weise, Newbury, Mitchell, JAM...) gets the 14th spot costing around 700 k.
Total cost for signing these 5 players would be around 7 M
That leaves us with 4.766.666 dollars
If you skip Zucc/avery/Feds option (and/or the 14th fwd) you save 2 M or 700 k respectively
Should be enough to acquire a good fwd. But definitely not two.
Either through a trade or through UFA.
I definitely do not think we can get Parise for this price though.
Time will tell
And this is counted with no cap increase. If it goes up/down = then these numbers change related to deviation compared to this years cap...

I guess its because his cap is split between NYR and Dallas Stars, isnt it?

Chad Kolarik is on the Rangers IR. On the Rangers cap. Kolarik will out with a torn ACL for 6 months. $525,000. Kolarik suffered the knee injury during the Rangers camp scrimmages. The Rangers can put him on LTIR retroactive to the start of the season to exceed the cap during the season.

Looking at BRs contract
http://www.capgeek.com/players/display.php?id=690
Whats the reason they use so much signing bonus instead of ordenary salary? Is it for potencial by out reasons or what?
I mean this year he only get "paid" 2 mill and have 10 mill in signing bonus, and so on. I dont get it.

it was done that way as 'lockout' protection...if his salary was $12 mil next year and we lose next season due to another lockout, he would lose $12 mil. But the way it was setup, he will receive the $8 mil bonus on July 1st and then if there is a lockout he only loses $4 mil.

the signing bonuses in other years is just a way to play around with the numbers to keep the contract in compliance with the limits on changes from year to year.

It's lockout/salary rollback protection. The CBA is up this year, and if there was somehow another lockout, or a salary rollback, he'd be insulated by receiving more money up front. Almost all the UFA's who signed this year did the same thing.

Saw that, but I don't get why the daily tracker only projects him to cost about 31k. Is it prorated based on days in the NHL last year?

So with Wolski off the cap at 3.8 and Drury's hit lowering by a few million I believe should they not be totally fine resigning Del Zotto, Prust?.........I would not worry about that as they dont have many UFA's

I actually will not be shocked if they add someone onto next yrs payroll at the deadline

Bump bumpity bump bump.

So as per this thread on the main board:

http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1131825

The cap is expected to go up to 69 or 73m.

What does that mean for the Rangers? Who can they hold on to (like Dubi if he gets his **** together goal scoring wise)?

How does this affect them as far as say dealing for Nash (Dubi may still be moved), or going after Parise?

I guess my real question is how much flexibility does it give the team?

Thoughts?

If the cap goes up to 69 million, Parise is ours.

It means nothing because the CBA expires on September 15 before training camps open.

We have discussed this topic here

http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1125937

The new CBA will bring a lower cap or the cap will stay at $64.3M for the foreseeable future.

Teams will need to operate on a fixed budget this summer.

Problem though is that might be just a temporary increase before july 1st and then much lower when the cba is signed. So there is a huge risk in spending that space unless you are confident that there will be a rollback, buyout period etc to get under the new cap

Never mind the lines
Lots of cap space... this year that is...
Next year (when CBA is set) we have Hagelin, Stepan, McD, Sauer and Anisimov to resign. Definitely will impair the ability in adding too much cap long term cap space this year imo.
A one year deal with R Whitney might therefore be an option for say 4 M for a one year deal moving him through the lineup?? (Would mean no more Mitchell - ie around $3,250 M in added caphit)
If nothing else is worked out via trades or FA (unlikely imo)... Ryan for Dubinsky++ would of course look very nice, but will The Ducks pull that trade? Doubtful... Nash has too big a caphit imo, but Sather actively pursued him offering a huge package (imo) at the deadline - so who knows? One can always dream about Parise - but I think we cannot afford him long-term.
Also maybe we try signing this Schultz fella from U of Wisconsin on the D if Sauer is out longterm/for good. He might start in Harftord for half a season and work his way up, (ev then replacing Strålman).
