Before sending Couts back to the minors I would buy out a contract like say Rowe for example. I don't see the need for mass panic over it that's for sure.
As usual, Homer plays with fire and gets burnt. When will he learn?
Meh. Betts played the last two preseason games with us, didn't he? We don't really know what the hell has happened here. Maybe Montreal were happy with how their new guys played in their opener, and decided they didn't want Betts after all, and Gauthier suddenly realized that he had this loophole he could use.
Or Betts is just done after all, and while still being able to hold up for a few preseason games would just never be able to sustain the wear and tear of a full season, and thus failed the Canadiens physical.
Homer might get blamed for getting us into the 50+ contract situation, that would mean not liking the signing of Kessel I assume, but other than that there's nothing here he could have done differently that I see.
It wouldn't be much of an issue if he could manage the cap and his contracts. Why are we still wasting space on Shelley? Why did he sign a 3rd AHL goalie when he already has two AHL goalies on NHL salaries?
Ha, with the way the majority of you guys were acting in the 'Betts Waived' thread, I'm surprised this thread isn't filled with ecstatic people acting like we just won the lottery or something... After all the insults and attacking people who were saying how done and shot Betts is, here you guys are cursing that he's back...How quickly people move on.

Well, Shelley is probably a bit difficult to get rid of if we wanted to. I don't know if any other team would take on his contract without us sweetening the deal considerably. Bacashihua was signed so that we can have a goalie that doesn't have to go through recall waivers, I believe.
this situation isnt Holmgrens fault because it ended badly for the Flyers.
Now if this ended up helping the Flyers, it clearly would of been because he is a fantastic GM. One of the best in the league
I'm assuming this sarcastic comment is insinuating that this is Homer's fault. Did he make him fail the physical? Come on. This is no one's fault. He failed a physical.
Honestly, it is kind of amazing that the Betts hate is worse than the Homer hate, or even the Rinaldo hate. Like I dont like Rinaldo at all, but I dont freak out over it like some people are with the Betts thing.
Oh and to the people who said our faceoffs would be fine... we are getting our ***** kicked in faceoffs. Vancouver is even better than NJ and Boston in faceoffs. Hopefully we will win one faceoff. Right now we are the worst team in the league in faceoffs. Yea we are 2-0 but in the long run, its gonna kill us. Especially games where we are losing.
Atleast after the first game they stopped trusting Talbot to win defensive faceoffs. They double shifted Couturier in that case.

I am glad I was one of the people saying we needed to get rid of him, and how the young guys have backed up(so far) that the pk is better without him.

There was no need to sign him for 3 years. As for the person that wants us to trade Walker to the Habs, we only wish but he's got injury issues and a pretty big cap hit.
Here comes the Homer hate again. Sheesh as if it's his fault Betts failed a physical. God damn we could acquire Ovechkin and you guys would complain that it was a useless acquisition.

Well, no, obviously not. But that was done quite a long time ago, it's hard to do anything about that fact now. As I see it, what Homer could be blamed for in this case, again, is going into the season with 50+ contracts (counting Couturier) and then the Shelley signing is pretty irrelevant, you have to focus on the more recent signings he's done.
It might of course be that they really didn't count on Couturier to be ready already this season and was legitimately surprised with the way he played in camp. Still, you'd prefer not to be completely up against the contract limit since it makes any future trades more limited/complicated.
betts cannot do anything, he is slow, his shoulder is weak, he cannot take people off the puck, his forecheck is irrelevant due to his speed, and the only facet of his game that could warrant a lineup spot was his pk, which we now have better players in that role.

He's really not nearly as bad as you make him out to be. His defense is reliable, his PK abilities are good, and he sure as hell brings more to the team than Zac "I go fast and take stupid penalties" Rinaldo.
