i doubt price wants to sign right now, he'll probably want to solidify last seasons play, to get the payday (he deserves imo) of 6mill +

also as above poster said, CBA might be an use also. i doubt PG wouldn't want him signed if he could right now.

You said it yourself, he's already worth 6m+. Offer him a 10 year, 65M frontloaded deal, and he will probably start worrying more about having a bad season if he doesn't sign it right on the spot.

Good point. I think both sides will wait out and see what will happen with the CBA before signing any long-term contract.

What does an eventual new CBA have to do with anything. All teams who have awarded 10+ years contracts recently knew there's a new CBA coming. You don't screw around with your franchise players for ifs and coulds.

The Kovalchuk contract will outlast the next CBA. I don't think Lou is a stupid GM, is he ?

In the hierarchy of good, better, best, and THE best on the Habs, Price is at the top of the pyramid, one stone above Subban. He should have been 2-0 so far. IMO Price has to glance down to catch sight of Luongo. I regret the disappointment felt by the folks in Winnipeg but the Jets had little chance to win their opener. By the way, this was a game against a team in the East, so the win was just as important in the standings as one against Carolina, for example.

Of course to negotiate is one thing, but I'd be willing to give Price whatever he wants. He is the best young goalie in the league!

The conclusion I draw from this is that Price was aware he wasn't worth a lot at the moment and wanted to sign for more next time.

This is exactly right. Price wanted to put up 2 really good years and then cash in..

10 year deal for 70 million and I'd be happy....

You give Price a contract, with two blank lines to fill in.
Years. Money.

You don't complain, you don't say anything, you just do it.

Both player and team should be happy with something in the 5 year range. Gives Carey the chance at 2 monstrous contracts, keeps him motivated, and minimizes risk ala Dipietro.

I say it could be a 5 year deal in the 30 millions range. Not sure if the Habs will ever give a player a lifelong contract. Also, not sure if I like anything longer then 5. I rather risk losing him then taking his drive for money. To much security in those longggg deals can take away a competitive side of things.

9 years / 54 millions would be my offer for Price.

As for Subban, he doesnt deserve 6m per.

He's the cornerstone of this franchise and the best young goaltender in the game (IMO). Give him 6-7 million bucks a year, pay him like the superstar he is, and get rid of some of the deadwood if possible. I.e. Gomez in the off-season.
