Theodore silences the critics…for now

It’s only been a little over a week since a meaningless contest shook up not the Florida Panthers but the team’s fans. You remember that fateful night in Dallas, right? The Cats returned the favor of facing the Stars after the Western Conference team beat Florida in overtime two days earlier in the BankAtlantic Center. The result was ugly and gave no red-garbed fan in South Florida any solace heading in to the regular season: a 7-1 drubbing by Dallas.

Kudos to Theodore and I like Markstrom pressuring him. That said the d was amazing last night and gets lots of cred.

Yeah, Theo was solid last night and how amazing would it be if he gets back to his Hart Trophy form lol. But the D made it very easy for him and we'll see how he fares against Pittsburgh, Tampa, and Washington. I also hope Marky gets his first NHL start in the 2nd Tampa game, as we play Washington the next night so it'll be a BTB.

Congrat's Theo!!!

Couldn't help but notice it wasn't just our defence but I saw on numerous times a forward back checking and breaking up a play or chance on goal. Panthers Fowards need to continue that thru out the season.

as is said when we acquired theo, i'm happy with this and feel that he's a better option than vokoun!!!!! only one game, so not much to go on, but i still believe theo will be an upgrade in goal and steal many games for us. at least i'm hoping that is true, but again am glad we got rid of vokuon!!!!!

Vokoun is clearly the better option of the two, and would have given us more of a chance at the playoffs than Teddy, and if you cant see that, then you've got some serious delusion.

based on last years play, sure. but its a new year. who knows the fortunes of each player for the upcoming 81 games? sorta gotta wait til the end of the year before a conclusion can be reached either way...

Not based on last years play, based on his play since he was brought in from Nashville. Im not the biggest Vokoun supporter, far from it in fact, but you place him behind this team, and Im sure he would probably have his best statistical year as a Panther, and we would be a serious playoff contender. Regardless of how Teddy played against the Isles, goaltending could really be our achillies heel this season.

"the Panthers had to shore up its goaltending and opted for Theodore, essentially signing the 35-year-old as a backup to Scott Clemmensen. But Clemmensen’s knee injury in pre-season changed everything – Theodore moved up to the No. 1 spot in the crease"

I like Jose Theodore, but anyone who thinks that Theo is better than Vokoun, or that Clemmensen is better than either, is crazy. I'd happily sell them some swamp property in....well, you know.

I'm happy with Theo's performance in one game, but every goalie has their good nights. After the first month or so if it continues for the most part, I'll have more trust in him as our starter.

And who was that quote from? From everything that was said by the organization, Teddy was brought in to be the teams new #1. Vokoun had a good deal on the table, and when he declined, Tallon had to move fast to shore up the #1 spot, which is basically what he said.

Doubt that quote is true, and I think Sinder was as confused by it as we all are judging by the huge question mark, but it doesn't matter. Theo and Clemmer will probably split most of the games evenly, I'd imagine.

And so do I

I know Theo is the no1

I quoted Bill just to show that he might not know what he's talking about. I actually stopped reading the article when I read that quote.

K, so Theo may not have "silenced his critics....for now?"

Yeah

But this article is still pointless.

Ok, it says "for now", but should have waited at least 3 or 4 games before writing this article.

I dunno, but I think that was the best he's looked since he last won the big trophy.

Look at Tim MF Thomas.

Meh, think he was just impressed that a guy who let in 12 goals in the last 2 preseason games got a shutout. But yes, a little too early.

I think it was more of how focused he looked than the shutout itself. Sometimes goalies look bored for their shutouts (see NJ).
Like how he had great rebound control. He was always bringing himself out to the top of the crease to face the shots. His angles were pretty damn on point.

It's one game, but it's meaningful because it's possible for him to do it again.

Well given how he averages one SO every 35 games, I wouldn't hold my breath.

He hasn't played 35 games.

In regards to his career average, defense DOES count toward a goalies performance. Who's he played with recently? Washington? Thank you.

Either way, you threw a BS stat at me. A goalie doesn't need a shutout to steal the game.

Have a little faith! Besides, if he let one of them in last game, he still had one hell of a great game.
