Correct that the sock doesn't protect above the knee but the same company makes underwear that does. Might be a mobility issue there though.
Yer not kidding, I skated barefoot. Would have hated those socks.

Panique pas. I was thinking about it today. I bet the Docs said do nothing, absolutely nothing with your knee for a month. Bet they re-evaluate Oct 15 and if OK, he skates, lightly. If we hear nothing by end of October, then Panique.

I don't expect to see Markov on the ice at all until at least mid-November...so I'd even say if we hear nothing by December, then it's time to panic

What is happening with Ryan White? When will he recover from his groin injury?

I just find it odd given that Markov was skating lightly even back in April! I vividly remember him doing stopping/starting drills.

I really hope that is the case.

Knee's are such a sensitive area to deal with in terms of recovery. I really wish Andrei the best.

I have already forgotten about Markov until January. No news can't be good news, not skating can never be considered a good thing unless he is in a top secret facility lol.

Don't know if it means anything (could just be a routine check-up to see how things are progressing) but I'll add it into the OP.

Markov isn't the only guy with a surgically repaired knee to suffer a setback.

Malkin sat out last night with swelling and soreness in his knee, but its expected to be day to day.

Seeing as Malkin was his first surgery, and Markov was the second on the same knee in about 8 months time.... I think this is to be expected.

Minor setbacks happen. I still expect he'll play close to 60 games.

Markov est en Floride pour rencontrer le Dr. Andrews. Je ne suis vraiment pas sūr qu'il ait patiné depuis leur dernier meeting, le 30 sept.

Edit: Added it because there is the extra bit about not being sure Markov has skated since 30th sept

It's worse then I believed. I'm taking 417's stance and not even thinking about Markov until mid-december.

We'll have to hold the fort until then.

Maybe it's what the doctor asked him to do? No skate for 10 days and meet him again to see how's the knee is doing?

I've had several knee surgeries in the past, and follow ups with the surgeon is definitely par for the course.

Not saying it's necessarily the case, but it wouldn't surprise me.

He isn't with the Habs anymore, they sent him back to the Flyers because he was injured.

I remember a few people saying Cammy wasn't wearing cut resistant socks because he had changed equipment or something.

“You try and protect yourself as best you can with your equipment, but skates are pretty sharp. By me bending the way I did, it exposed an area that was unprotected. I wear cut-proof socks but they just don’t go that high. I feel I got pretty lucky because it could have been a lot worse,” added No. 13, who registered the Habs first goal of 2011-12. “I was just sitting there hoping the doctor was going to give me good news, and it was a big relief to know my leg was going to be okay.”

Apparently he was though, just that the way he was on the ice, the socks didn't go that high.

Pretty sure that every Habs players wear those socks since the Price-Markov incident.

not much we can do but hope at this point...

but I'd be shocked if the team gave Markov the contract they did if the current set-backs were on the radar this summer.

you'd have to think that at the time they re-signed him, they had strong evidence that his recovery was on schedule, that he started skating and now has had to stop completely and is returning to Florida for further consultations is not a good sign.

for all of our scientific advancements, when it comes to how a body heals and responds to stress is still very much a guessing game.

hopefully they don't find any major problems, but it is not out of the question that they find something serious enough to have to go back in... not unlike what we just saw with Peyton Manning... if so, Markov could feasibly be out for a much longer period of time.

cross your fingers!

It's not the doctor appointment, it's the stopped skating thing. I thought he at least was skating somewhere away from the media, not all together. It has more to do with my own perception on the matter than what the news means. I made a wrong assumption on his level of activity.

I guess all those who worried about his re-signing were justified in being so.

When you assume the worst for everything the club does you are bound to be right every so often.

Anyway, maybe you should wait to see what they say before you gloat.

Not really. Setbacks are common with knee injures and we all knew all along injuries like this even sometimes take a full year to recover from.

If he isn't back by December then we can start worrying a little bit but ultimately they're doing what's best for Markov and the team. He was rushed back too early last time, this time they're just taking their sweet time to make sure everything is 100% first, and with good reason.

There is absolutely no reason, zilch, nadda, nothing, to justify being worried about this situation as of yet outside of what we already knew all along.

Andrei Markov at airport and off to Florida

As per a BLOGGER online at: http://bigthabs.blogspot.com/2011/10...date.html#more

And Arpon Basu on TSN 990 radio about an hour ago, Andrei Markov is off to Florida and was waiting at the airport today, possibly to get medical clearance or a more serious problem with his knee.

The picture is in the link above, proof that he was at the airport and waiting to leave to Miami.

The "stopped skating" thing is just a guess. The orginal report on his setback had him not skating for 2 weeks early September but once camp started he was skating on his own with Eller and other injured guys. No reason to think that he stopped skating.

He's missed 2 games out of the 246 + playoffs that he re-signed for. You're right, close the books on this one. It's a total loss.
