Hmm. What's the scoop on this guy? Is this the Flyers needing to get rid of a contract?
It's exactly that. With the return of Betts, we were back at the 50 contract limit without including Couturier. We needed to get rid of a contract in order to keep him after 9 games.
I guess the 6th round pick was given to the Kings for doing a favor for Philly.
Even if this is a paper transaction, I have to say that when I saw Legein play about six years ago in Mississauga, I came away impressed by his game. Similar in style to Avery, he is an agitator who could play and has some skill, but I have no clue what happened to him after he graduated from juniors.
Seems to have developed some off-ice issues, but hopefully that is behind him. He was young, still is young, and maybe there is a future for him, even as an AHL regular.
Get real. The team just got a pick for not doing much, that's a great favor to be doing.
yeah right............
what about we helping develope the youngsters in Philly to kick our future butts and are rewared with a 6th rounder and crap.
Hell i would give up our next 200 6th rounder and all the Zeilers and Clunes to give players like Toffoly and Co extra NHL experience............... but nobody is stupid enough to do us this favor.
Same with Bruins........ we helped them winning the Stanley Cup and payed a draftpick for that.
Serious............ i could puke right now
Philly has a lot of contracts/prospects obviously needed to dump one. This is an excellent pickup. Very fast right wing prospect, 2007 2nd round pick, and get paid to take him. Definition of low risk high reward. This is a gift from Philly. He has a bit of upside with a decent skillet but it looks like he likely won't be able to put it all together. Reign or Manchester fodder for free, and who knows, maybe he grows into a fourth liner...

I think this is a good trade for both sides. Flyers free up a contract spot to keep Couturier on the roster, and Kings get a young player who at one time was a very good prospect and a 6th round pick.
Let me just say as a fan of the Flyers AHL squad, Legein couldnt crack our last place club roster. There are some major issues with his attitude and such. And it wasnt just the coach. The Phantoms went through 3 coaches last season and he had problems with every one.
Lombardi gets a 6th round pick for paying off the last year of Legein's contract. He's a non-prospect.
Seems about right. Spend a little money and get a 6th rounder. Nothing wrong with that.
I guess this guy is part of a long list who just never really moved to the next level. Seems to be a consistent theme in Blue Jacket prospects... Man that franchise is the kiss of doom to young talent. I think we all underestimate just how important a teams development strategy is to the creation of NHL careers.
Legein seemed to have two major problems. That he may not have wanted to be a professional hockey player (but had talent) + blue jackets. So by the time he gets a second chance with the Flyers things are a bit past the point of return. Never know though.... If he plays for Manchester things could turn around. God knows we seem to love small fast players in the AHL!

I'm tired of hearing hey maybe in the future a NHL 4th line player. There is 10,000 hockey players who play all around the world with potential to be an NHL 4th line player.
