Detroit to the Southeast, Colorado to the Pacific (mountain time zone, closer to San Jose and fairly equidistant to LA and Anaheim as Dallas flight time wise), Winnipeg to the Northwest, Dallas to the Central.

Minnesota will kvetch, but Dallas is coming from a far worse scenario time-zone wise.

And honestly, Columbus deserves the move to the east, not Detroit. They're further geographically east than the Wings.

Well that would be the worst case scenario. It wouldn't redress any of the Stars' concerns while simultaneously reducing the frequency one of the Stars' biggest attendance draws. So yeah, that will probably happen.

You've got to somehow accommodate this, while also moving the Stars. I haven't seen an elegant solution for both yet that doesn't involve redrawing every division.
Not that hard to move Detroit to the Southeast, Colorado to the Pacific, Winnipeg to the Northwest, and Dallas to the Central.

Minnesota might complain about being the only US team but Winnipeg is only seven hours or so from them. The closest team we have in our own division is 17+ hours. And that team might not even be around next season.

Don't even know how you can keep the name Southeast if you put Detroit in there....

McKenzie suggested on his blog that Dallas's lack of owner is hurting them in this process. Dallas feels their concerns aren't being listened to because we don't have an owner like Ilitch to lobby the BoGs for our plight.

Where the hell is Brett Hull, wasn't he supposed to be the person who dealt with the BoG?

I wouldn't think he has much weight regardless. We have to hope Galliardi gets in quick and can get them, because if theres reallignment it makes absoulutely no sense for us to stay in the Pacific.

Got a bad feeling we will be stuck in the Pacific once they announce a new realignment.

Random question, who even took us out of the central???? And why the Pacific???

I'm just gonna laugh when their whole plan gets screwed over once Phoenix moves (I'm almost certain it's gonna happen now).

I give Phoenix a 2% chance at staying in Arizona.

I doubt they'll move this year, where would they go? Quebec is the closest to getting an NHL team and they don't have a NHL approved arena and won't until 2015. I just don't see them moving next year. I'll give them another 2-3 years until we see them move out of Phoenix

it really seems pointless to me to alter the divisions while phoenix still has a franchise.

I think they stay in arizona for a few years too. So if you altered things now then phoenix moves to the east somewhere everything is all effed up again.

No longer officially employed with the franchise. His contract expired recently, I think the end of last season, and he's waiting on the ownership to get settled before deciding his next step.

That has been addressed in UnholyPrince's post.

Per McKenzie
NHL not likely to create division with 1 CDN and 4 US teams, or vice versa. (No VAN-EDM-CGY-WPG-MIN)

What you're suggesting would put Minnesota in an all Canadian division. It won't happen.

I wonder why.

I could be wrong, but I think if any American city can boast unbridled fanaticism towards the game of hockey more than any other sport, it's Minnesota.

You're right.

And while all signs point to the Stars being screwed in the Pacific for the immediate future, I doubt it stays that way for long. Phoenix, unless something dramatic happens, will likely force more divisional changes.

I'll be disappointed if we don't move divisions.

Chicago
Dallas
Detroit
Minnesota
Phoenix
St.Louis
Toronto

Anaheim
Calgary
Colorado
Edmonton
Los Angeles
San Jose
Vancouver
Winnipeg

Boston
Buffalo
Carolina
Columbus
Montreal
Nashville
Ottawa

Florida
New Jersey
NY Islanders
NY Rangers
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
Tampa Bay
Washington

That's what I would like to see. With the top four from each div playoff format. Then when Phoenix moves to Quebec they can swap spots with Nashville or Columbus. I value reconnecting the old rivalries as much as possible over worrying about one team being able to travel 100 less miles.

Isn't Kansas City supposed to have a newly-built, empty arena? Is it not NHL-approved, or is the NHL not interested in that city? (Not saying they should get a team over Quebec, this just has be curious.)

Is Houston pretty much out of the running...?

I think all we need is someone who actually wants to own the team here. We've got everything else.

And as for the fan base, I think it'd be better than Phoenix here. We were pulling 10,000+ to almost every playoff game once we got past the first round, and we have one of the better AHL attendance records, IIRC.
