I loved Smyth but dumping a 4.5 million dollar salary and 6+ mil cap hit for a 25 year old who probably puts up 40-45 points...? Even looking back on it, I still am amazed we didn't have to put him on waivers or take salary back.

I was thinking.. maybe the Oilers needed the bump to get over the cap floor. But CapGeek tells us the Oilers are at $60M right now.

Spend $60M to (most likely) finish out of the playoffs and probably in the lower half of the lower half?

Yikes.

Heh, ok. For a second I thought you meant Fraser, who has 41 points in 230 something games.

I'm still mad about the Sturm disaster.
What was the disaster? He played, didn't pan out, and was let go. What did it cost us? A depth pick or something? I forget what, if anything we paid, but it wasn't a great deal.

Why are we actually doing favors ????
Usually to get something in return. In this case I assume it's the 6th rounder and the chance to flip a dead weight to the Flyers later down the line if we need it.

Quote:
Have we ever gotten one ?????
Thanks to the fact thus far DL has shown the ability to manage a cap and contract numbers, have we ever needed one? Most of these favors are cap space/contract limits related. DL manages that better than others it seems.

Quote:
Not enough of the Simmonds, Schenn stuff... no we keep on doing favors.
What more was there to do? What great deals did DL turn down you'd have jumped on?

Thank god Lombardi has no background conenctions to the Bulls.........
they would reactivate Dennis Rodman as character coach
Does DL ever do anything right in your eyes?

Let me just say as a fan of the Flyers AHL squad, Legein couldnt crack our last place club roster. There are some major issues with his attitude and such. And it wasnt just the coach. The Phantoms went through 3 coaches last season and he had problems with every one.
I agree. Legein is a player I "used" to like. However maybe you guys can preform a miracle and hopefully turn on the lights upstairs. The main thing it sure looks like Sean will be here for the rest of the season which is a good sign that the staff is happy with his game. Also it shows that the Flyers and Kings have a very strong relationship.

Hell i would give up our next 200 6th rounder and all the Zeilers and Clunes to give players like Toffoly and Co extra NHL experience............... but nobody is stupid enough to do us this favor.

Same with Bruins........ we helped them winning the Stanley Cup and payed a draftpick for that.
Serious............ i could puke right now
Toffoli can't play in the AHL this year. he's junior eligible, so he's either in the NHL or junior. How are Clune and Zeiler (Whose not even in the organziation anymore) holding him back?

And we didn't help the Bruins, we did a trade and it worked out better for them than us, but to imply that we were what put them over the edge to win a cup is beyond absurd. Might as well blame us for not drafting the likes of Chara, Marchand, Bergeron, etc when we had a chance and preventing them from ever getting to Boston. That's our fault too, right Kurrilino?

Btw, we've picked the likes of Blair MacDonald, Doug Keans, Kevin Stevens, Rem Murray, Jere Karalahti, Robb Stauber and Scott Parse in the 6th round in our history, as well as guys like Mario Lessard, Dave Taylor, Ken Hammond, Luc Robitaille, Robert Lang, Kimmo Timonen, Steve Valiquette, George Parros, and Cristobel Huet in rounds later than the 6th. Also, there's these kids named Maxim Kitsyn, Brandon Kozun, Jordan Nolan and Michael Schumacher that guys around here have high hopes for that were picked in the 6th or 7th rounds.

But yeah, DL is an idiot. I'm not proclaiming him the next Sam Pollack, but take a look at where we were 5 years ago and where we are now. Light years better. Did he benefit from some high draft picks and some talent in the system? Sure, but he's done other enhancements as well, and bottom line here is, he added an asset (maybe two if Legien somehow pans out) for what will likely amount to a beer with Holmgren in the summer. What an ass DL is huh?

FYI Kurri, try doing some research before bashing DL, especially the rules on where junior kids can go. Your attempts to bash this organization and give it no sincere praise is getting tiresome.

I guess this guy is part of a long list who just never really moved to the next level. Seems to be a consistent theme in Blue Jacket prospects... Man that franchise is the kiss of doom to young talent. I think we all underestimate just how important a teams development strategy is to the creation of NHL careers.

Legein seemed to have two major problems. That he may not have wanted to be a professional hockey player (but had talent) + blue jackets. So by the time he gets a second chance with the Flyers things are a bit past the point of return. Never know though.... If he plays for Manchester things could turn around. God knows we seem to love small fast players in the AHL!
It's funny how some teams do have that kiss of death factor. The Thrashers were great at it. hardly anyone draft outside the top 5 picks in the draft by Atlanta did anything. The Caps in the early to mid-90s were bad too and the Oilers from about 1984-2004 had a few hits wrapped around a lot of big misses.

Nothing wrong with this acquisition.

Another great deal by DL!

Let's just hope the kid has matured and flourishes to his potential.

I see this deal as getting a 6th rounder for nothing. Legein will just sit in our system, trying to maybe do something in Manchester or Ontario before his contract is up. No biggie. We've picked some good players in the 6th recently.

Oh yeah, and people, you need to stop quoting Kurri. I have him on ignore for a reason.

If the internet didn't exist, none of us would even know this trade ocurred.

Kings got a 6th rounder for "nothing". To date, Legein's best year of his career was his draft year. He should be a non factor in determining value of the trade, because he has none.

Lombardi picked up a 6th round pick for what will no doubt amount to a bag of used pucks. You can never have too many picks... especially if you (hopefully) pick late in the rounds.

I played roller against this kid after he finished his rookie year in the O, very silky slick hands. Hes turned into more of an agitator though. I would say hes turned into a Helm like player, or Simmonds with better skating and higher end offensive skills. heard he had some rough times a while back and actually retired from hockey a year after he was drafted by the jackets. i think he just went though some burnout a bit back but if hes got his game back and his head is in the right place this could be a great pickup.

Kings have done pretty good with their late round picks.
