Perfect scenario would be Schultz collides with Crosby as Schultz is going to the bench for a line change (ala Steckel and Fehr last season).

Malkin a gametime decision. Crosby won't be playing obviously. I like our chances if Geno plays, not so much without. Here's to no injuries!

If the Caps' skaters play like they did against Tampa, and Vokoun actually shows up, it won't be close.

5-1 Caps. Ovechkin wakes up with 2-1.

10-0-2

Capitals are 10-0-2 vs. the Penguins in the regular season over the last three years.

Although only barely the favorite in Vegas (by as little a margin as it ever gets in Vegas actually), I'm kind of thinking the Capitals are a good bet tonight. They seem to have their number, in the regular season.

Makes you wonder how in the world the Capitals lost to them in the playoffs.

I hope Vokoun gets his head out of his behind.

Way too lackadaisical for 2 and a half periods last game. He came on strong towards the end, and I hope thats the one that shows up.

This is a veteran team with cup aspirations, an excellent veteran goalie and a proven backup with playoff experience. Stop polluting this board with either fanboy cheerleading or abject stupidity. We don't need either.

Vokoun has proven himself solid for 12 seasons now...

We got him to help obtain the Cup... Holtby is still developing and it would be unrealistic to think he could lead us to the Cup.

Gonna have to start riding your horse at some point.

I hope Vokoun shows us what he got... 4-2 Caps. Our scorers: Mojo, Chimera, Carlson and OV.

Crosby definitely won't play. This morning's practice was non-contact. I wouldn't be surprised to see him before the end of the month, though.

Wonder how the Lokomotiv emotions will impact the game, especially with Vokoun.

You seem to be suggesting that the Penguins winning a playoff series means they were better during the majority of that playoff series, which, in an important sense, is trivially true. One good way of measuring relative team quality at a given time is to pit two teams against one another in an actual NHL game.

I think everyone already knows this though. My post had already acknowledged this trivial truth by pointing out that the Capitals in fact lost in the playoffs to the Penguins.

The issues I intended to raise were, primarily, the Capitals' 10-0-2 record vs. the Penguins in the regular season over the last three seasons, and, secondarily, the contrast between the Capitals being better during 10 of the 12 times they have faced them in the regular season over the last three years, and the Capitals not being better in the playoffs. I felt compelled to point this out just because it seemed like, to me--although I could be wrong about this--that one topic of conversation in this thread is the chances of the Capitals winning tonight, yet the only mention of previous recent competition between these two teams in this thread had been references to the one playoff series.

In total, the Capitals are 13-4-2 vs. the Penguins over the last three years.

He played in one game for Hershey this year and it was a solid effort but far from mid season form. Holtby does seem to step his game up at the NHL when given the chance, but my opinion is Voukon should/hopefully have a great game. His comments after the Tampa game are of a man that wants to prove himself.
